Fortress of Arrogance Help plz

Alright, I\'m doing my own (better IMO) version of the Fortress of Arrogance. I want to use Boltgun metal and Mithril silver instead of the gold colors seen HERE

I also DON\'T want to paint all those rivets. Not because it takes a long time, but because I think it looks like crap.

So I\'m left with all this big open flat black space, which has features, but wouldn\'t look good just picked off in silver. So what the heck do I do with all that open space? How do you paint something that big black and make it look believable?

I\'d suggest picking out the rivets and the edges in a mid to dark grey. Something like Adeptus Battle Grey. The highlights and painted rivets will give the body some definition without looking all sparkly like the one you showed (which I agree looks dodgy)

I take it this section of the forums doesn\'t see much action.

Thanks for your input. I\'ll certainly try this and see how it looks.

I would personally sand the rivets flat-last thing you want in an armoured vehicle are rivets that break easily and ding around inside the vehicle even with a non-penetrating enemy round. (I know..realism isnt a factor )
What about loading the flat spaces up with prayers and devotional photos of missing family and the like? As in the vehicle has become a shrine to those lost in battle?

You and I both know I\'d have to go through and sand all the rivets flat on every single tank I have in order for that to look right. Do you want to sand and repaint all 15 of my tanks? Neither do I.

While I like the idea of the tank being a shrine, I think it\'s supposed to inspire fear and respect among the troops. It being covered in verses like the backing on a thousand milk cartons might just end up feeling like it would be a distraction to the troops.

At least, that\'s always the kind of thing I had always imagined about the Black Templar vehicles. Compared to say, Ultra Marine vehicles, the adepts who are sent to polish a BT vehicle probably take twice as long. They\'re always stopping to read as they go along, or correcting the verse if the accidentally smudge it. The ultras don\'t even clean up their insignias. They just leave them to get all cracked and weathered.

So anyway, I decided to go with a modification of what SJB suggested.
