Foundry three shade paint system.

What do you guys think of the Foundry three shade paint system?

I know it kind of goes against everything we seem to be bombarded with at the moment. Blending, layering, feathering and the like, but I kind of like the look of it and I\'d like to try it out with my new GW IG army.

Comments?

I think it looks very good in a stylised way. Definitely excellent for the tabletop, very dramatic.

Details ? Pics ? Sorry, but I don\'t see what that \"Foundry 3-shade system\" might be... :innocent:

Edit : first draft didn\'t mean anything lol

Life\'s funny...

Seeing as how Bryan Ansell left GW and took over at Foundry, I find it quite funny that GW are following the Foundry painting style more and more right now.

The style of the work in the latest HOW TO PAINT CITADEL MINIATURES seems to me to have gone along the lines of the Foundry Paint System and the work of Steve Dyer, Dallimore and all those chaps.

It\'s definitely a good system in its own right, but it does stop short of the more advanced styles. More a case of quantity not quality (although I think that the style they advocate can look cool when you see an army full of the buggers - and those painters can probably do the advanced techniques anyhow, just in their spare time).

Chat to Sturmhalo, Panza! He uses a few of their paintsand will be able to tell you more about them.

Otherwise, I think they are a good idea for large quantities of minis along the lines of their own style.

God I\'m boring lol.

i have a large quantity of the foundry paints and im pleased with them!

i use some of their yellows for NMM and im a fan of their \'teal blue\' set,

i tend to use them in conjunction with my GW paints, however as \'reverend\' said they are a quantity over quality paint set,and if you stick religously (reverend+religiously?!?)

to the style you can paint an army up pretty quickly - yet still looking great!

this is painted in a foundry style yet still looks really good - and anyway whats to say that just because your using foundrys that you have to layer????? i blend mine ^_^

Just bought and used the pallettes 6 & 7. Found them to be just like GW\'s but in better bottles. (GW\'s original style)
They even mix in with GW without any problems.
I used the Tan, Tan Light & Shade to mix together and found no problems although just like some GW paints they can come out a little \"shiney\". Mixed to provide several shades using various ratio\'s they are alright.

I think most of the Foundry palettes are lovely. I use them alot (and I never paint Foundry style).

There are some bad ones though. Watch out for the Red (yuck!), Flesh (pinker than pink), and the black (very glossy). I\'ve also found that a few of the highlight tones can be very far from the midtone. This is the case with one of the greens (I don\'t remember the name) and the \"drab\" palette. It can make blending without mixing a little diffucult.

You should give them a try :)
