The only thing I can say is don\'t go to Cleaveland, it, if fact does Not rock.

Other then that, all I can suggest is come to Canada instead.

I would suggest Detroit so you could just jump over the border to my hometown, the town of Strip Clubs, massage Parlours, a Casino, Horse Racing, and more Coffee Shops and Pizza joints per Capita then anywhere else in the world. But then you would be going to Detroit.

On the topic of beer. Germany does not have the best in the world, close, but Belgium has that honour. There are tons of great American Microbrews. Sierra Nevada being one of the best, and Great Lakes Brewing Co. being the only reason I would ever go back to Cleaveland.

By coffee shops I meant doughnut shops. The Majority being Tim Hortons of course, but there is also Temptin Donuts, Starbucks, Second Cup, Robin\'s Donuts, and a ton of independants.

I reccommend The Coffee Exchange downtown on Ouelette street. They have some of the best coffee, excellent sandwhiches and deserts and every Wednesday is Boardgame night. Just tell the owner Gilvan sent you :D

If you are going to New York, I have a list of 8 pubs that are over 100 years old. But only McSorley\'s has its own beer, and it\'s gotten to be a tourist trap with crap beer.

On the other hand, down down the road a long ways at the end of Long Island there are two forks. The North Fork is wine country with lots of vineyards. The South Fork has the Public House, a very excellent brew pub. Between the forks is an aquarium called \"Atlantis\" and a water park.

In the building I\'m in at the moment there are two Tim Hortons, not 100 feet from each other. In the same semi-open area. One only does doughnuts and coffee, the other does sandwiches and so on as well.

On Huron Church the road that the Ambasador Bridge lets out on (the Bridge between Canada and the US) there is one corner with 3 Tim Hortons on it. Just because it\'s so hard to Turn left when you want a Coffee. Just in case you miss those, one block up there is one on the left, another block up one on the right. In case you were on the left and missed that one, there is a turnaround loop to get to the one on the right. Up a couple more blocks, 2 more, oposite sides of the street. It\'s rediculous. Even odder, they are all, ALWAYS busy.

To get back on topic, I suggest Florida and the various Teme parks. It\'s been years since I have been and if I could afford it I would head back as soon as I could. It\'s not true that it\'s all for kids either.

Thanks everyone! I still don\'t know where to go but at least I know that every single place in America has something for me to visit ;)

As for the \"laid back or active\" question: I don\'t really care. I like museums but I have also climbed a mountain before. I would, however, prefer to avoid the kind of heart-pounding action that amounts to \"Meet me in this dark alley and bring 300$\".

Basically: What do YOU think is \"American\" and where can I visit it? Problem is that America is so big. You have so much to see and I have so little time.

Come to Texas -

What trip to the states is complete without a visit here?

Ha! Good point. I really need to see Texas for myself.

All right, swing by this weekend and I\'ll hook you up with an assortment of beers cunningly grabbed from my father\'s stash.

I\'m not sure anyone answered this question - yep, you can come to GenCon during GenCon and purchase a one-day ticket on site, you don\'t need to do anything in advance. A lot of popular events fill up in advance, but for something you really want it\'s worth getting some of what they call generic tickets and showing up at the event in case some of the pre-registered people didn\'t show up, that happens a lot. Also there is a ton of stuff to do outside of events. There should be even more this year, as it is the 40th anniversary of GenCon. Saturday is the best day to come in terms of number of events and activities. Thursday or Friday are better in terms of fewer crowds and there\'s still plenty to do. Sunday is pretty much over by 4pm, so probably not worth it for a one-day ticket.

I haven\'t seen enough of America to be very helpful with suggestions on that front.
