Joe Haldeman wrote \"The Forever War\" series.
There are similarities, but not too close as to get a lawsuit from Heinlien. (Forever War was published before he died).

Basically its like Starship Troopers except the space travel is screwed up. When theyre on the ship the jumpdrive kicks in and to them the voyage takes 6 weeks. But outside the ship its taken 6 years. By the time they get there the battle has been long over. Its mainly about a conscripts experiences and coping with getting home from a war that to the people on Earth ended hundreds of years ago. Based on the authors own experiences in \'nam. They have power armour aswell.
