ok... now that i got your attention... im sad to regret tehre is no free stuff... instead im conducting a bit of a servey.... me and a friend are tryin to peice together a new mini line.... so heres the Q and yes its quite brob but thats ok... cause were looking for ideas!

what kind of minis do YOU like? let me refine that a bit..

what kind of sci fi minis you like? space marines? battle suits? mayb some kind of alien? what would YOU like to see come out of a sci fi line

what kind of fantasy minis do you like? mayb its those small but muscley dwarves? mayb a noble dragon?

what kind of historical minis do you like? knights in amour? mayb rolling artillery?

please let us know your favorite type of model from each of the 3. and if you have any ideas forsomething new and different that you havnt seen out there feel free to give me a PM!

I like well sculpted, well cast, and well done minis... I can\'t really say what I just buy what I like. I like minis that even as a sculpt are densly atmospheric and realistic. I\'m a bit of satanic so I like dark and evil minis (in sci fi at least).

In fantasy I like miniatures that are very well proportioned... and very loosely closed :kiss: Listen to me! SEXY CHICKS SELL WELL! Reaper says that 70 percent of all of their minis sold where based on that fact.

For me there really isn\'t a \"type\" of mini I like as in marine with x,y,z etc.
Coolness is just to hard define IMO.
I like sci-fi and fantasy, just got a couple of Enigma figures (54mm).
Sorry not very helpful.

Fantasy: Barbarians, preferably evil ones... (both warrior types and sorcerer/druid/priest types)
Sci-fi: Scruffy-looking vagabond types (think Han-Solo)

Sci-Fi - mechs and bots. Not enough droids/mechs or bots out there for sale anymore.

Fantasy - Messed up evil looking Chaos Wariors, think old school GW vs new cookie cutter chaos.

Historical - I know my wife would love some ancient Greeks.

Others: Modern Horror. White wolf World of Darkness type stuff. Werewolves in bluejeans, Vampires with Mohawks.

Literary/fiction/TV etc characters are also good (Don\'t know if anyone else has mentioned - I\'m not reading that brilliantly at the moment!! lol)

But I\'ll go with wat Angus said - as long as they\'re interesting and made well enough I like most KINDS of figures.

I also like spacemarines, but try to sculpt and sell one and see how long it is before GW bend you over and shaft you for all you are worth.

People will not buy any old crap, what type of things are you good at sculpting? Play to your strenghts.

i have one sculpter on the go at the moment and another who will be starting soon.

i decided to get into the historical market as the bulk of the historical minis out there (28mm) aren\'t that great. perfectly fine for gaming, but just not good enough realy for display painting.

find what you like, and then find sculpters who sculpt in styles that you like.
no point in getting someone to sculpt in a gw style, if your after correct proportions.

and be prepared to wright off the money invested incase it doesn\'t work out.
there is no way i would plan my future around starting a mini company and making a fortune.

you guys made some great suggestions:

scifi: i DEFINATELY agree that droid type things are bad ass, and that there arent enough weird looking ones about. i also am in to vikes grunge stuff, but i am also really in to the super clean anime ish stuff, corvus bellis \"infinity\" line in particular. a combination of the two styles would be great....something like cowboy bebop.

fantasy: the only genre i i work in any more. as mentioned before, all the cool dnd monsters are great, and i really like UNIQUE and characterful character minis, with quirks and stuff.

historical....umm i donno...knights are cool, and definately greeks...in fact i do like mose of the commander type minis in foundry\'s historical lines.

as for new genres: PULP style minis kick serious ass! zombie hunters, gangsters, mad scientists, german hotties, freaks, all of it.

If you\'re aiming at painters rather than gamers then concentrate on sculpts with character and quality as we\'ll buy anything if it looks fun to paint!

Sci-fi: I\'d like to see some interesting aliens - Dr Who type of thing, not just big monsters.

Fantasy: Think characters. Heroes with an obvious tale to tell - unique dress, weapons, souvenirs etc and dramatic poses that would look good on a nice base.

Historical: As above, but with recognisable hitorical/mythological characters - Kings and Queens, Knights of the Round Table, Cromwell.

Basically, make interesting models and make them well! :beer:

Don\'t neglect the concept stage of producing new minis! The concept artist is just as important as the sculptor. Don\'t expect a mini to be good just because you hire someone who can sculpt well! If the sculptor doesn\'t have a great concept to work from you might end up with basically anything.

fantasy: maybe a race no one has tried yet, use your imagination!
historical: historical is boring. no offence meant to anyone who like it:beer:

thanks for all your replies! it has been a large help. i now have a new sci fi wargame idea thought up and ideas for atleast 2 armies so far! still have alot of work to do on it and sci fi being the last thing on the table to make up wont be around for a while! however i can assure you it will be different.
