Freehand design-tips

so, im doing this Sergeant Telion mini (http://www.40k.visualvoodoo.ca/wp-content/gallery/newmarine/telion.jpg note this is not mine, just for references), for a painting comp at a local store. im painting it in my Mortifactors scheme to save some money aswell (greedy student). i have pretty much finished the entire mini and am looking for a fitting freehand design to go on the inside of the cloak. the base colour of the cloak is purple if thats any help.

ive been thinking of either doing a series of skulls going along its hem, or perhaps some kind of tribal tattoo design.

any and all help needed

Well the skulls would be a lot of hard work, and may suggest Chaos more than a loyalist marine.
Tribal Tattoo designs I can\'t imagine them transferring to cloak designs and looking \"right\" on a marine. (They look OK on Rackham figure as Glyphs looking like letter symbols).
Perhaps you should consider something simpler and more in line with the GW fluff, plain lines along the hem with an eagle or chapter symbol in the corner.

@Mike : skull wise, he\'s perfectly in tune with GW fluff if it\'s for the Mortifactors. Though I do think the purple cloak is a bit too rich for them.

@phreak0 : You might want to look up things about cults of the ancients (indian culture (as in asian, not american) and to some extent chinese culture have some pretty interesting skull designs for that).

@green stuff: i was thinking about the whole Aghori culture in india as a reference because of their rather bizarre/morbid rituals involving human cadavers wich seems to fit rather nicely with the mortifactors. but then i was struck by some of the artwork from the Moche people in Peru wich include some really grizzly scenes aswell. (ive even been researching our library at the university to try and get some photos from fellow anthropologists visits to certain cultures)

im going to look for some chinese stuff aswell then thanks for the tips

The chinese should be less macabre.

The Moche sound also like an interesting field to explore .

yeah im gonna try to mix some chinese with some latin american ancient stuff and see what i get, but skulls it is. i also just found where i could get printable transfer sheets nearby those will be for my land raider. hopefully i will find the right usb cable for my cam and upload pics here.
