Freehand Ideas

I need ideas for a Golden Demon entry I plan to enter in one (or two if I fail to win anything in Chicago) of teh Golden Demon competitions. However I\'m at a complete loss as to what design I can put on the banners and shields of my unit (a group of zombie knights). Any help would be greatly appreciated and whether I win (unlikely :) ) or not I\'ll be sure to give credit.

Any specific background information or anything relevant that we should think about too?

Even something vague like \"I really like elephants\" might spark some creative stuff. ^_^

if they are zombies i would stick to the usual \"former army\" look. Meaning you give them some Empire patterns, perhaps some Highelven patterns etc, just weathered really severely :)

I might end up going for that. As for background information, I want something, unique, but still undeadish. As for colour scheme, the entire unit is being done up in green (skin), blue (barding and some clothing), and purple (other clothing).

I\'ll say checks.......

.......of some description, either as a border or incorporated in any other way.I always think properly weathered checks look great! :)

I\'d love to use checks but I\'m sort of wary of it, as its a lot harder to pull off than it looks.

As it\'s a banner....

.....you could make the weathered checks quite large,I often do this (it\'s not cheatin\',honest :innocent: ) with a scroll or Zombie dragon on top! I\'m a member of \'used to be scared of checks anonymous\',we sit round drinking tea and laughing at each others \'check\' horror stories lol

You could also go for a classical look, using some true type heraldry. I always find heraldry lions and dragons look great!

I\'ve found that a great place to get inspiration for banners and such (esp. undead) are tattoo and airbrush websites. There\'s some stellar work out there that will definetely get your mind fired up...

I think you\'ve sussed it
large checks with zombie dragon what a great Idea. Especiallythe zombie Dragon
:D:D

Well I doubt I can pull off the Zombie dragon, but hell, I need the coolest design I can muster going into the competition. Its settled then...

Dark blue and purple checks (bit of weathering to the edges) and a zombie dragon in the middle. Talk about in over my head :D.

Thanks all, there\'s a reason why I keep coming back here.

Well good luck Hope it all goes well
Actually Is spent about 2 hours just now on my prototype shield and it turned out surprisingly well. Still needs the finishing touches and the weathering to be done but much better than I expected.

Good luck chap...

...I find shields to be a good practice,if you can get checks or scrolls on those little buggers banners should pose no probs lol I\'m starting on the weathering myself, may have to try it on some shields soon. ;)

Shield one is done. I decided again the weathering, and instead used a different sort of textured approach. Basically all the checks have 3-4 uneven tapering lines of a lighter tone. It provides visual interest and distracts from an uneven checks. I\'m considering applying the checks technique to the barding now. I now I\'m doomed to go out of my mind if I do but it just wont look right unless I do it.
