freehand

Hello, and since you appear new (3 posts)...welcome to the very best forum on the inte...awww, who am I kidding....this place is just fuel for the addiction :( :( *cries...needs help...too much paint fumes* :)

Anyways, sorry bout that :p

I would suggest:

A) a very fine brush...5/0 or 10/0 from a good maker (ie. Winsor & Newton Series 7 Kolinsky for miniatures, Escoda Kolinsky Tajmir, others can explain more brand names...these are the 2 I use..but I suck so don\'t take my word for it :) )

B) pigma micron pens (smallest sizes...forgot which sizes but search for those pens and you will see for yourself)

C) a steady hand :p

D) lots of patience

E) scrap paper to paint the images on first, to make sure it looks how you want it before you destro...uhm..I mean, enhance your model :p

F) a nice light pencil incase you want to draw the pattern on first

Have fun :) :)

Hi

Top tip....keep your paint very very thin.
If your painting a light colour over black then base with white.
Use a flow enhancer in the paint for a smoother finish.I use winsor and newton flow enhacer, also good for washes.

And practice a lot.

Heres a gold nmm example of freehand on the coat of a figure Im currently doing.

Basically the gold nmm was done by thinly painting white over the black until a solid white basecoat for the freehand was acheived. Then is was brown blended through yellow to white.

some freehand examples...

No, these awesome ones are not mine (sadly) :D

There aren\'t really tutorials since it\'s more practice and natural drawing ability...if you can draw well with a pencil, practice a bit and be more careful, and you can do it with a paintbrush/pigma pen.

Here is a great one, the gargoyle image on the cloak.

THis next one is just insane, all the writing, pics, dragon images on it...

THe banner...

I\'m not even gonna comment since the freehand is just too beautiful (not to mention he sculpted the model as well):

Check out the freehand on the ground, banner, the armour (all those faces-- this model is a slayer sword winner) ...go thru each page, lots of nice shots of his work:

Anyways, if that doesn\'t inspire you (or depress you in my case :p :p ) nothing will :D

Good luck and post pics (and never be scared to ask for help).

Well, my tip is to NOT use the smallest brush you can find. A brush that small will not hold enough paint in it, and the paint will also dry out before you have finished the brush stroke. Use a larger brush with a very good point instead, and thin paints, which will allow you to finish every brushstroke, and thereby make the painting easier.

Damn Sanjay did you link the 4 best freehanded mini\'s on the site? I was hoping for something I had not already voted and drooled over.:D:D:D

I agree with Astonia that a bigger brush with a good tip is better. Now if I can Find a damn drush that will keep its tip for more than a few hours worth of painting.

@ albufas The one thing you need to know when using pigma pens is to let them FULLY dry as they will smear.

@ Klute Damn nice gold NMM freehand you got going there. I can\'t wait to see the finished mini.

hehe

Sorry Drake, but for our Albufas I figured, showing him some of the best on the site would help see what you can do with some practice.
