I know that many people in GW staff think the same, even in France. some of these guys are bored about the style of some of us (I mean, the french painter I know). and more that a style, the ideas and the full sculpted minis. not only GW is \"closed\" Rackham put my entry some months ago out of competition, because I sculped it...
so, come to the Monde du jeu in september (Paris) for a great open competion. nobody will be disqualified for a scrathbuilt or a pink teddy bear space marine lol

I stated this earlier - I don\'t think the guy said anything so out of line that he should be called stupid. It was HIS OPINION, and nothing more, about what HE felt a GW mini should look like. Everyone has a right to his/her opinion.
I agree with Vike that there are some amazing stuff in the 6-7 range, and I have voted 9\'s on minis that were far from painted perfect. Sometimes a person\'s concept is so cool that it can rise above mediocracy; and isn\'t that what this site is about? Cool minis? Not perfectly painted ones; now the ones that are both cool and perfectly painted deserve the 10\'s!

A hobby isn\'t always exclusive. If you can afford to pay and enjoy it you are in the hobby. Now winning a competition is another thing.

I say its all a matter of opinion (but he\'s still wrong) If I were to show my best painted model to all my friends, they would be amazed and applaud me, but if I were to show my best mini to a GW employee, he (yes, I said he because I do not know if there are any female employees of GW. lol) would say that my paint consistency is terrible and yada yada yada and I would still stick to my way of doing it because I am stubborn and I don;t like my paint being thin because I nevver get it to the right consistency and it ends up being runny and I end up with a wash. . Makes me sorta sad that sometimes when I take a picture of my best mini and it ends up adding a red hue to all the white parts because that takes me down so far.

Just to add something to the discussion.. I\'m Italian so I have read ALL the discussion at the Italian forum and the sentence translated here was just one part....
Luca (the one that wrote the sentence) is one of the judges of the Italian GD, we also have the honour to have Allan Merrett in the jury too and the third judge usually change every year.
He dont like the NMM but if you look the past winners you can see that many miniatures were painted with this style.. IE GMork mordhaim squad that won the slayer sword 2 years ago and Tony\'s Dreadnought that won the gold last year.
Well, hats off for me, I hope he will continue to judge the next contests...
Then the discussion has taken a more interesting aspect... seems that inthe next Italian GD (December) the miniatures need to be more similar to the actual GW imaginary.
I.E. Jeremie\'s ogre that won the slayer sword in Canada probably in Italy will be disqualified because is too different to the actual ogres.
Next month they will publish the rules on the Italian White Dwarf so we can see if there\'s something different.
Oh.. this seems to be the position of the Italian GW staff...
(sorry for the bad English.. at least hope that Reverend will have a good laugh )

@Avicenna: I agree, my point is, this is likely someone who has never even heard of Coolminiornot, he\'s not part of the wider community and he can only judge it based on what is showing up at the Golden Demon competitions. Agreeably the most I see of the GDs is the pictures on here and the pictures on the GW site, but only very few on the non-slayer sword winners have ever actually just struck me. The most striking models I see are the ones that never get to competition, and they also tend to be some of the most original that I have yet seen.
They are basicly telling you right off the bat, that what they are looking for, is what fits the best with their beackground, with their armies, and with their paint schemes. They created the Warhammer universe, and they withhold the right to judge the creations based on it. If they wern\'t even slightly judgemental, then they wouldn\'t be judges now would they.
@ Spacemunkie: The GWkids comment is not only unfair, but it completely degrades any comment that anyone has that might possibly support GW! As to the GW imagery thing, those GD rules wern\'t changed yesterday. They\'ve been there for a while, and if GW can\'t judge what\'s comming out of it\'s hobby in a competition designed specificly for that, then who can? Likewise, I doubt their market shares are dropping because of this one GW staff member\'s opinion, which he stated as such.
