Funniest thing you\'ve heard in a GW store.

Whether it be total bullcrap for an employees mouth, or cringeworthy nerd-speak from a player.

For me, it was a bit of both. A few years back a London GW employee (who was advising me on my initial purchase of Eldar models) insisted on aiming an invisible gun and making \"pew pew\" noises after describing each squad.

He wasn\'t joking, and I felt embarrassed for him.

I was at a con and there was a man 65-70, on the floor, with a tank going \'vroom vroom\' while pushing it around.

\"Look its a girl!!\"

Which was basically any time I took my gf into the shop with me.

Thankfully the guy was a friend of mine, and not a complete nob.

Plus my gf had big boobs, which also works.

the funniest I\'ve heard in a GW store is that they had a LoTR event in stockholm and that John Rees (he plays gimli in the emovies)had come to the event a was playing LoTR in his Gimli costume, and most people knows that Dwarfs are small and John Rees is.. tall, and he was jumping around in his costume and playing Lotr and screaming... now that I\'m writing it it sounds like Bull, but at the time I actually believed it lollollol

Watching a game of WHFB I ask why someone doesn\'t have his mounted general join a particular unit.

Staffer says, You can\'t have mounted characters join infantry.

I note \'oh really\' and grab a rulebook.

Staffer says, \"oh well, I don\'t really know Fantasy, no one that knows anything plays Fantasy\"

You\'re talking about John Rhys Davies, I presume, Larre? A fine actor like him should be recognised by his correct name! ;) :p

Some of you guys seem to have some pretty dysfunctional staff at your local GW stores... Those in Stockholm are perfectly decent people. In fact, there\'s a regular hobby store right across the street from them and they actually tip people to look for certain products there instead. Dullcoat for instance... I mentioned Vallejo Model Color metallic medium to a guy working at the store and he asked if they had it across the street and I said yes. \"Cool, I gotta go buy a bottle at my lunch break!\" was his response.

This is a good way of running a store. A happy customer who feels satisfied with the help he got at the store is worth a LOT more than if they should have sold an extra bottle of purity seal and the customer might not return.

Not in a store but...I rang GW mail order today for my GD ticket.

On answering the phone the fella shouted

HELLO! YOUR THROUGH TO GW MAIL ORDER!

My dad who was across the other side of the room heard it (it nearly deafened me) and shouted
HEEELLLLLLLO! as loud as he could.

The GW mail order fella just went \'huh, wha, eh....Ah can I have your postcode please.)

lol

Maybe he had just been talking to several hard of hearing customers before you rang.

Not allowing other companies bags in the store is downright stupid and look what happened, they lost a customer for good. If they just thought of themselves as part of the mini painting/wargaming/roleplaying hobby, like it seems the guy in the Stockholm store seems to, then they might just get more repeat business as the customer had a pleasant experience.

At least they still have their Phone people in Nottingham, and not Timbuktu or Somewhere 80000 miles away :flame:

@Uberdak Which Store is this? I feel like raising some stink about it in certain quaters. My son caries his mini in Army transport case, I paint with P3/Citadel/Vallejo mix right in the middle of the store and NOBODY ever said anything. Well, they keep joking about my \"heretical\" paints but that\'s about it.

As for the funniest phrase... The guy enters the store and yells. \"Oh, you guys sell videogames here, do you know where do they sell toy soldiers?\"

well I\'ve been tagged \"painter\" in my local GW store, so they just ignore me when I come in, they make me wait for half an hour before they accept to cash in my purchases, and never talk to me (which is the good part).

And I\'ve probably heard loads of funny thing in that store, but I just tend to forget them. :p

Having worked as a red shirt myself I\'ve heard (and said) many downright preposterous things in our store. Possibly the most absurd incident was when we convinced this kid that there was a new Tyranid tank on pre order called the Fraggle-tadger. Not only did he believe us but he got his dad to ring up and try to order one:rolleyes:

Once we had the resident retard (every store has one) come in and try to get a refund for some minis because they were badly made. When he opened the box there were several flat lumps of metal inside. Apparently he\'d put them in the oven to make the paint dry faster........

Then there was the weekly hillarity of phoning in the order and asking for Crappachan Anklebiters, Shaven Stormvirgins and Testicle pink paint.

I could go on for hours

errrrm once when i was there i heard a mother telling her son that she would collect him at 6, it was only about 9:30 in the morning at the time. i just thought poor GW guys bbysitting this kid all day.

Oh and they stopped my brother using his airfix glue instore \'incase he got injured with it they wouldn\'t know what was in the airfix glue and so couldn\'t help him\' at least they let him borrow some of the stores glue

i also used to work at GW.

had one guy come in and demand to see the manager and started ranting about how he wanted to bring this item back coz it was rubbish, took us a few minutes to convince him we realy didnt sell train sets

also, had one quite drunk guy try to steal 3 boxed games and assorted other stuff by hiding it uder his coat, that was draped over one sholder, had he been sober, and not have me spot him straight away tucking the first 40k under his coat, he may have got away with it, till as he tryed to leave the shop he dropped the lot on the floor lol,
he then picks up all the stuff and say can we hold it till he goes and gets his money,,, yeh right:drunk:

There was a mom who dropped off her kid at just about store\'s opening, and expected GW to babysit him (basically like what James said). So I came at about 12:30 or so to enter a painting competition there, and one of the staffers was ridiculing everything the kid said and asked, because the kid was just unbelievable. He would diss the store\'s paint jobs, knowingly with the staffers who painted the figures right there, and ask a question, which was answered jokingly by a staffer, who kept a straight face the whole time. :D

After some warnings, they finally kicked the boy out after he used the phone to call his mom.

Then, at this years Canadian GD, I was checking out of the event store and some staffers/volunteers were interrogating a kid and one of the cashiers because they thought he didn\'t pay (he probably didn\'t). Not really funny, just isn\'t something you see every day.

Yeah, that pretty much sums up French customer service, but that\'s not such a bad thing. Ever since I\'ve lived in the US the staff launch themselves from the other side of the store to ask you a barrage of questions including name, where do you live, what do you collect, have you seen this new range of, blah blah. With GW becoming ever more corporate I can understand that they tell the staff to do this to encourage beginners to the hobby, but sometimes you just wanna be left alone to shop, and not feel like you\'re being interrogated.
