Furies vs. Screamers

After getting my butt beat a few times in a couple of draws and minor victories, I\'m emersing myself into the lovely art of stop charging and using flying, crappy, units to make the opposing player think I may just hit him from behind.

In our book we have two units that can effectively do this: furies and screamers. Screamers are a little more expensive and also have a higher leadership, but furies have a higher strength value. What would make someone choose screamers over furies? I\'ve seen people do it, but I\'m just curious.

Personally I\'d go with Screamers every time. The extra point of strength on the Furies is OK but in my book it in no way makes up for the leadership of 2. Your problem stems from the instability test if your side loses the combat the daemons involved need to take a leadership test and then lose the amount of models they failed the test by. With a respectable leadership of the Screamers you may only lose one or two extra casualties but if you lose you can pretty much say goodbye to the Furies. Don\'t forget that in order to claim the rear charge bonus and negate your opponents ranks you need a unit strength of 5.

Add to that the Screamers special rule where you can cause injuries by moving over units and they certainly seem to be the better option. Have them fly through a unit or two whilst you get your main charge into position and then go for a support charge in the rear.

Don\'t forget that goofy slashing attack screamers get!

Furies are really only useful for march blocking and hitting war machines etc.

Sorry Undave! I usually just skim your messages to see if I\'m mentioned at all. Does that make me a small person?

I think you\'ll find that the versatility of screamers makes them way, way, way more effective then furies.

Also, and not unimportantly, the GW fury models suck. A ton. The screamers will be more fun to paint and play with.
