Hi Folks. Long time it's been since my last post and a LOT of things happened. First of all the good news. I'll be father in April. Yippieh Yayeah! We don't know if its a Minilord or a Miniqueen yet though.
As you can imagine the bad thing is that I don't have much time for my painting and its getting fewer.

STILL, I had some time to start to paint my KD miniatures for our gaming round. Dirty, quick paintjobs, that maybe, but more likely not will be cleaned up at a later time. We'll see. With this WIP I want to share some of my ideas and painted miniatures with you. Let's see if I can keep up and end all the needed miniatures for our campaign.

Okay lets get rolling. Here are the first miniatures you'll need for gaming. The 4 survivors and the White Lion.

Survivors are straight forward miniatures, a lot of skin and a towel to keep the minis from being cencsored. :) I used the vallejo skin colour set, some GW washes. On base also GW washes. OSL straight out of Airbrush, pffft, pfft, quick and dirty. I think the colour combo purple base with the yellow light is a strong one and works even now quite well.
What is missing now? Highlights, cleaning up things,...If I had more time I'll get into to put some tatoos on them, and even that black liquid running out of their eyes as described in the fluff.

Next thing was to assemble and paint the White Lion. Well I tell you, all of the KD miniatures are not very easy to assemble. To top that I did that at night, the only time I have some hours left for my stuff.
I think I assembled the white lions face wrong in all ways possible. As my wife was sleeping I tried not to scream whenever I found a mistake (of course after plastic glue was set).
My idea was to paint him somehow like a Mandrill ape. Just to get some crazy colours into the game (+1 Insanity for me). Most of it is hit on wet in wet, maybe took 30mins. Some days later I cleaned up a bit, put in some shadows, more colour for the Mandrill effect and on his cojones (yeah, they are sculpted, +1 Insanity for sculptor). Even got time to put on some highlights.

On the base I used a GW skeleton and put on some Halloween spiderweb decoration as hair. If you want to know why there is a skely, well I tell ya, has to do something with the fluff of this monster.. :)
Base was created using the KD face bases together with some Microart studios bases. Sanded to get it slim and free areas plastered in Moltofill. Painting was done with wet-wet, washes pigments. Tadaa. :)

The photos were taken after two gaming sessions with my friends. The white Lion took a lot of beating and we even more. Have to find a good tough black coat that protects the bases better, Right now there is only Vallejo primer and GW purity seal on it. Not enough protection as it seems...

Well so much for now. Hopefully I can post more updates soon. Clock is ticking. I leave you with a close up of the white lions face. MEEOW!

Hi folks,

I got some more time to paint and finished the second monster needed for gaming. The screaming antilope. Most of it is painted like the white lion, starting with a wet in wet sketch on anitlope and base. This time I got the idea to paint it like an Okapi, an african rare woodland giraffe.

If I have some more time it needs some more definining on the furry parts...more shadows and of course highlights.

I have also started some alternative survivors to match the weapon choices of my gaming group. I'll upload them maybe later today.

I never would've considered mandrill-colors for a lion! -and those prismatic colors you put on the bases somehow convey that these are godly beings, or some other type of beings not of this plane. Amazing what a choice of colors will do!

Congrats on becoming a father! It will likely be the most rewarding (and most challenging) undertaking of your life, and I envy you.

Looking forward to seeing more of your magical planar creatures!

Thanks Thri Keen, yeah it will be a great change for us, but we are happily looking forward to it. :)

Maybe its a crazy idea, to use a Mandrill face for a lion. So far I think the best effects in fantasy are achieved by using elements known and mix them together in a strange way. Furthermore this game is already really dark in theme, so I try to get some colours in with the monsters.

Okay, here are our survivors V.2. With some of the first gears our gaming group achived. I didn't try to make it exactly matching our gear grid, instead I tried to make them look dynamic and interesting. The only thing fitting to grid is the weapon use, bow, axe, sword. So far the are only primed and the skin is 90% finished. On the archer you see what will be the next step to the rest of them. After that I will define the materials, leather, fur, bone some more and get some contrast. At the same time I'll try to achieve some overall colour connection/blurring. We'll see how they turn out.

Bases are finished so far, just need to paint the black borders again.

I could also finish one of the survivors, or at least to the level I want to paint the others too.
When I first got the KD Box and looked at the plastic sprues I immediately loved the sprue with the masks. I had to use one of them for a survivor. I'm not even sure what mask I used here, but for me it was the coolest looking one. Again I tried to make a dynamic pose, as if the woman is jumping/dancing at the enemy with her knifes. Would be a scary view right? In fact the legs are meant to be used for a kneeling position, but if you slightly turn it...it fitted perfectly for my idea. Always think out of the box when assembling sprues! :)

I really love how this miniature turned out. If there will be time after this project this will be the first miniature I'll get back to paint in more details. Well she got some tribal tatoos already, maybe you find them.

Next will be the butcher, we already played him "Unpainted", what a shame... and then there is the intimidating phoenix...ufff..great job to paint... I'll keep you updated :)

ooh, there's a lot of nice stuff going on here!
Really like the colouration on the witch doctor!

Just a note, there's a sneaking mold line on the hilt of the sword for the female warrior :)

Hey there, thanks for the info, have to get rid of that mold line. Thats the problem when using many parts on one model, I always miss some. :)

Meanwhile I got some time to paint one of the expansion's Monster. The Gorm. A really freakish and scary Monster. Let's see how our gaming group will do against this abomination :)

To get a good glow effect I used some daylight pigments. I got them from the German company Kremer pigments, who sell them for a reasonable price and BIG quantity (http://www.kremer-pigmente.com/de/pigmente/tages-leucht-farben-fluoreszierend/) .
One of these 100g portions last for a life time. A more reasonable ammount would be 20g for hobbyists like us. So if you have some friends, you can divide it to that ammount and still have a LOT. :)
I more and more love to mix pigments into my acrylics, the high saturation can not be achieved otherwise. All of the daylight colours are great, just the white is not as good as I thought.

Fear the Gorm! Buuuurrp!

Weird! Btw i like the use of the baboon colors on the lions face. It really adds to the nightmare feel of the game.

I've been following this thread for a bit because I love how the lion turned out, but that monster has compelled me to say something. It is horrifying and -fantastic-. It's hard to pull your gaze away from the face and eyes.

That "Gorm" is a horrifying sculpt to begin with, but what you've done with those eyes is just shocking! I'm going to have to revisit my catoblepas and see if I can capture that same feel. Shaken and impressed, dude!

Thanks guys! :) Yes its a scary bust, but it was a blast to paint. Actually one of the easier KD monsters, to paint and to assemble. It's male btw ;) but only my painting group can see that. I added a blue perlescent effect (pigments from Kremer) to the eyes and as said I used daylight pigments to achieve that glow. You are welcome to copy anything you see here if you like.
My favourite part is the hand that is pointing at the victim. Seen good in last photo. We want YOU, to be our next meal :)

Next will be phoenix, or the slenderman, as my group wants to enter him in timeline. Will this be the end of our settlement? :)

Hey guys! Sadly I was ill last week so I couldn't do any painting. This week I'm feeling better and painted the Slenderman miniature. It was a hassle to attach those tentacles right, but I think I finally got them right.
It looks more fragile than it actually is and also the painting was surprisingly fast. I painted tentacles, body and head separately.

Base is built with miliput. Idea was to display that dark water material as it is mentioned in the game. Also used some glitter and pearl effect, but as my photos are bad as always its hard to see them. All in all I'm very happy with the result.

What is left for future: Maybe add more contrast on some parts some more highlights here and there. For a gaming piece I'm happy as it is. :)

Sheesh, you're quick n' dirty stuff is still head n' shoulders above my painstaking, slow-going stuff, lol. Good work man! KD has some really cool figures.

Hi Octavian, thank you. Just take your time and good results come with it. Most of all, have fun painting, no matter what level. :)

I had a great painting evening yesterday at a friend's place, who is also enjoying model building and miniature painting. It's so much more fun painting with others.
So I did some more work on the unfinished survivors and furthermore found the time to make some real WIP pictures.

Here you can see some of the progress. I painted all of their faces. Focus was on adding painting some tribal flavour on them. The sword fighter is painted more like a samurai, as my friend who is playing this figure is a fan of Japanese culture.

So here we go:

And finally the mad axe man with the skull helmet. The berserk of or gaming group. I made him as spooky as I could. :)

Still a lot of painting to do with these guys. Also some corrections on the faces have to be done. Main focus is still to paint all the miniatures need for our gaming.

Well tell me what you think so far of the survivors? Some more crazy ideas for warpaints? :)

Furthermore I have some goodies to show. Last Autumn, as I had some more time for painting I did these two Infinity TAGs. Exercising black and white, NMMs and camo pattern. Still had no time to make a good photo to post here in Cmon. I really suck at this. These will go on ebay, as they have to finanze my future paintjobs. Wish me luck.

The following TAG was inspired by the story of Toni Macayana in the Human Sphere rulebook. I didn't paint it like seen in Angel Giraldez marvelous paintjob, with Panoceania parade colours. Instead my idea was to paint it with a camo pattern. SO it would acutally survive some minutes in Paradiso :)
