Galdrin's Verthandi project

This weekend I started a project that, for me, will be the first in many ways. Prior to this miniature I've done 4 or 5 warhammer figures so this will be my first non GW figure, this will also be my first model in metal and of a bigger size.

I've never painted flesh tones before as I've only done Skaven and it's also the first time I'm trying out NMM.

I've had plenty of help from experienced painters today but from now on I'm n my own so I thought I'd start a thread where I could show my progress and hopefully get some friendly pointers that could help me make the best of this nice figure.

So, here is my first progress pictures.

The skin tones are nice but the outdoor photo brightness is not the best choice too see the really skin. The weapon is great, very clean, keep working man, will be nice!

Thanks for your comments Rothskin. I've attached an indoor photo to this post.

Next I have a question about her shield. The backside of the shield has no structure except for the straps used to strap it to the arm. The backside of the shield will not be in focus in any way but I still want it to be good looking but I'm having a hard time to decide on how it should be painted. Should I go wood / bare metal / some kind of velvet imitation in some color?

Been trying a few versions of NMM steel at the backside of the shiled but nothing looked good after closer inspection. I tried a
new way to paint it today, mostly just stippelig lighter and ligter colors on a dark gray-brown base. Question is, Before I over-analyze it, does it work or does it look strange?

I looks already very nice, but I think that if you paint some extreme highlights and shadows (and maybe a couple of small scratches) you will take it to the next level. Love what you've done so far; congrats.

looking good so far. as said above just needs some extreme light and dark as well. really needs to pure white and pure black to look NMM. her skin tone is nice. needs a little bit more contrast.

Thanks for the advice. I Think I can manage to create a few scratches like the once on the axe, but I have some trouble with where to place the extreme highlight as the backside is in "shadow". I've made the top right corner pure black, should a draw a thin line in pure White in the lower left part, next to the to be gold trim? Here are som Pictures from the manufacturers site to show how she holds the shield.

Really great start, you seem to have a natural skill with the nmm on that axe blade :)

Any suggestions on improvements before I try and make something out of the gem in the center of the shield?

just one,... drop a thin line of silver (or gold if the area calls for it) down into battle scars on the shield, just because it wouldn't be painted any longer in those areas. If the damage is older,.. maybe a bit of rust in there??
