No, it wasn\'t dipped. Darin has been playing around with that effect for the better part of the last year to get the color shift to work. The fact that you noticed it, means that it worked.

So to sum up what this means is if you want to win a Gold Demon then you should paint something to catch the judges eye not just something that is technically perfect.
I\'ve always heard this was the case.
I have to admit when looking at Angela\'s work, my first initial reaction was \"uggh..Space Marine\", then I really looked at it and saw that it was beautiful.
Jeff\'s Wood Elf on the other hand, initially kind of jumps out at you with it\'s \"wow\" factor, then you look at the paintjob itself.
So I like both of them, but in saying that if Angela had painted any other mini than a damned old boring Space Marine, I think she would have easily won.
By the way, the Abadon that took second place in 40k looks a little odd to me the way it changed color in person. Is this a painting trick or was this model dipped?
but had heard some others state it was dipped

Thanks Rodnik. I was super impressed with the model but had heard some others state it was dipped. Your explanation intrigues me and I would love to find more out about this or possibly see it in practice.

Probably the same one who was quite angrily saying that there was no competition in Fantasy Single for his purchased Bretonnian Pegasus Knight.....

eh? Why on earth would it matter if it was dipped? Doesn\'t change the fact it looks great. It really annoys me that certain techniques are dismissed out of hand, seemingly because they are \'easy\'. What a load of bollocks, its the end effect of how it looks that should be judged, who cares how it wasd achieved?
Anyway, I really like the Abbadon, would love to see it properly.
As to the cureent discussion bear in mind we here at CMON are spoiled for top minis. We have heaps of GD winners here so we are used to seeing the best of the best. Due to the nature of the competition entries will vary from year to year and place to place.
