Hey everyone, I\'m looking to get some feedback on my 40k single figure entry from Golden Demon this year. Chainsword Preacher I felt pretty strong about him, but wanted to know what you guys thought. So bring it on :bouncy:

Given my two pennies worth

Hi! I have had a look and posted a comment. I think the miniature is very strong but have difficulty coming to terms with the base primarily. I should perhaps mention that I am colour blind (defective) so it will be interesting to see what others feel.:flip:

Your mini is good, but it still needs refinement, especially the base. Its a bit flat all over and needs some extra detail/ design in the white. Did you see the new article about the Baltimore Games Day? Your gonna have to bring your *B*E*S*T* painting game to a Games Day. Good luck, hope this helps.

Just a few thoughts..

From what I can see, the painting is quite good, especially the chainsword (some nice weathering), however nothing on it really screams \"I\'M HORRIBLY WELL PAINTED! LOOK AT ME!\" which is something I *think* you need with a GD Mini. well, it might not necessarily have to \'scream\' it, but it should try to stand out somehow... in the mass of all the other mini\'s something about it needs to make the judges want to take a second look at it.

it just \'feels too much like a stock standard mini to me.. perhaps some sort of basic conversion work on it (extend the banner pole and put a banner in perhaps?) or some freehand details painted on the robe to really bring the detail level up. Perhaps some sort of writing on the red strip on his robes and some sort of painted details on the kercheif around his neck? I think originality in your piece is the key.. Stock standard mini\'s still place quite regularly, but they need to be painted eye-bleedingly well IMO or have some sort of angle of originality to them (freehand & the like)..otherwise some minor conversions/additional details added here and there can make a stock mini stand out against the crowd.

I think shading/highlights that have a reasonable level of contrast between the darkest/lightests parts tend to make final cuts more often than not, so perhaps being a little bit more dramatic with your highlighting/shading could help? the cream on the robes just feel a bit flat, although it could be the pic not doing the figure justice..

Just my 2 cents..

its a nice mini. being colour blind like finn, i think the base looks a little odd. but it may be our cray eyes  (or brains)

i like the weathering on the chainsword. other than that i couldn\'t think of anything to say. then i read shg\'s reply and have to say i agree. mayble a few more small details, a little more shading for contrast, and perhaps a little converion.

i\'d be proud to have painted it though

Thanks guys, I have been thinking about putting an Imperial or Inquisitor symbol on the large expanse of robe on his back side. Maybe this help will finnally bust me out of \'we are thinking about it\' to the top three :D

Gotta agree with SHG.

It\'s a good piece, but even great pieces don\'t win golden demons. Then again, judges can sometimes find something in a mini that does it for them. It\'s all personal, and I\'m sure that not all of the judges at Baltimore agreed on who should win the medals.

The best advice? Keep on painting.:D
