He was so bedridden, he had to sell his gold medal?! That's terrible!

*Yeah, I googled Mark Wells. Not the one you were thinking of.

GAMES WORKSHOP GROUP PLC

Games Workshop Group announces a change in Senior Management

For the past five years Games Workshop has had the best CEO it has ever had. Under Mark Wells’ leadership we have become better organised, clearer thinking and commercially more robust.

The needs of the business over the last few years has meant there has been a gradual overlapping of the roles of Chairman and CEO. Recently this has become so complete that, after discussions together, Mark and Tom have agreed that the CEO’s role, as it stands, is redundant.

Tom will incorporate the role of Acting CEO into his position as Chairman and, whilst it will undoubtedly come as something of a surprise, Mark has decided to leave the business.

Mark is looking forward to planning his next challenge and he does so with our support, best wishes and heartfelt thanks.

These changes take immediate effect.

I like how the whole company seems to be clueless as to how all their "great changes" are being perceived, how their sales could be different.

What's a little worrying is that he was brought in to streamline GW in 2007 because the current Chief Executive couldn't.

That same bloke is now back in the driving seat. Although Mark Wells has done what he was brought in to do, I can't help worry that it'll all go pear shaped again.

Hmmm... I don't know much about Mark Wells, or much about GW UK in fact, but I do know that much has changed in North America since 2007. On the retail side at least... one-man stores, no more GW Canada, no more Canadian White Dwarf, only one Games Day (down from 4), etc. I used to work for GW retail a few years before that, and back then there was considerable middle management bloat too.
