I liken GW to Microsoft. Alot of people bag microsoft but if it wasnt for them we wouldnt be sitting in front of a computer typing on this forum. Sure they seem to have lost sight of why they started making minis but I doubt I would have got into minis.

I\'ve never gamed with minis, didn\'t really appeal to me and found the rules just too complex and all, although I have to say it was playing Space Hulk that got me into the hobby in the first place.

Seems the concensus is that GW has turned into the evil corporate machine intent on world domination. Well, guess they were the first one to step up and really develop the market and have reaped the rewards. And there\'s nothing like the big bad guy which everyone wants to beat to help spur the competition, and look at the range we\'ve got now. So really lots of credit to GW.

However, having said that, I\'ve decided not to do GW minis anymore - there\'s just too many other better ranges out there. My aim for now, is to do one from each of the other manufacturers. Could be a little tricky when it comes to selecting which minis though - each range has so many to choose from!

Here\'s a shameless plug for Golden Toadstools.

I play with my GW minis and usually I can find anything from their company on Ebay. Even new stuff. We just started playing Blood Bowl, so I ebayed a team.

But for my painterliness, I try to paint other companies stuff for Toadstools, because there are so many really cool sculpts from the other guys. I can blame Jason Moses for the Chick Challenge which really made me want to try new stuff. Thanks Jason.

Oh yeah, enter the Golden Toadstools at ElectricOcean. Stop Lurking. It is the best place to get critiques.

Reguardless of the policies of GW I don\'t like a majority of thier games because they are mass warfare.

I am a painter first, gamer 2nd. I mean I love playing games, but I would prefer to play games where I like the figs. The monotomy of painting the same type of fig over and over just plain sucks.

Now there are a good amount of games that are skirmish that provide much mini variation and I love them. Granted some are getting larger in scale but when your painting a unit a month you don\'t feel it.

Regardless of many anti-GW sentiments, I think we have to acknowledge them as ushering in the \'golden age\' of miniatures.

I agree. I actually think GW have done a lot of things right, especially when you include Specialist Games and Forgeworld. I don\'t think they have just sat back and rested on their laurals.

Also I feel they have pushed boundaries, especially when it comes to plastics. Really its more a comment that what they provide is less and less suited to my tastes, perfectionism and slow painting

I\'m a gamer, first and foremost, I only paint (poorly) because any paint looks better than lead. I just buy what ever I need for my army, not by how it looks. Some of the stuff looks good, which is cool, some of the stuff looks wonky, like my Bile Thralls, but I live with that. Especially if they kick as much ass as the BTs

I\'ve never, ever played a game in my life!

So I just buy minis \'cos I like the look of them.

Manufacturers like Rackham and Privateer Press have also led the way by offerring the choice of skirmish play, or fielding sizeable armies.

Ilyad also make some wonderful stuff but I am filling my current need for Khador and Cryx minis at the moment.

I don\'t see why GW can\'t make a little sideline in producing miniatures for collecting and painting specifically. It could be a great move considering they still base a large part of their business on well-painted figures. A new range, especially for painters. But they\'d charge double.

I wanted them to sculpt some roleplay stuff with WHFRP2 released. The swines won\'t though :flame:
