Gandalf in younger days...

I\'m taking a Shakespeare class, and my eyes bugged out when I saw the cover of my book:

I knew Ian was in the Royal Shakespeare company and all, but he was so YOUNG! Gandalf is one of those people that you never think had a youth, and yet there he is! I also got to see a tape in class of his fellow students Ben Kingsley (Ghandi) and Patrick Stewart (Cpt. Jean Luc Picard).. It was totally surprising to see they haven\'t changed that much over the years, except for some lines in their face and whatnot (Why is Mr. Stewart always been bald?)

Anyone else see an actor before they hit it big, so to speak?

i\'ve met him! used to go to school with ben kingsley\'s son too. and i was in a Royal shakespeare production too at one point (going to shakespeares old school did have some benefit after all) thats my claim to fame

And I went to College, to a Public Address class in fact, with Al Rocher long before the Today Show.

@ Chrispy Man them are some sweet @#! comics you did great job man !! now back to subject as if anyone ever stays on one There is not much differance in his appearance, soon as I seen it knew how that was. As far as it goes for famous people well nothin much live next to Terry Mills From the Detroit Pistions and got to got to a Pretty cool party with the Pistons , but I don\'t even like basketball so whatever

I was able to see Ian McKellen in a production of \"Richard III\" about 12 years ago. I wasn\'t going to go, but man am I glad I did! He was spectacular.

Sir Ian McKellan is a god who walks among men. He\'s an amazing actor, and unlike other classic thespians I won\'t name, takes his sci-fi and fantasy roles seriously. He wrote quite a lot on his website about how \"X-Men\" paralleled the gay rights struggle, and how much he appreciated getting to play Magneto.

I met Ron Jeremy in Detroit on a flight to LA. Rather interesting individual though you can\'t help but have your ego bashed somewhat.

Ian Makellen has appeared in lots of British TV drama\'s, plays and such. So I\'m looking at it from the \'other\' perspective, I was surprised when they announced him as Gandalf. I thought \"That\'ll never work!\" , how wrong I was!!!

I\'ver got Richard III on VHS, he is VERY good init!

Sir Ian McKellern was born in Blackburn lancashire, lived in Wigan Lancs and went to school in Bolton.
In fact, at the very well reknown Bolton School. Which because of it\'s sprawling and Victorian Frontage is known Locally as \"Hogwarts\".

One of my favorite films is John Boorman\'s Excalibur (1981) which has Patrick Stewart in and he looks exactly the same in that as he does now and that was over 20 years ago .

The film/acting industry is like a ginat glacier- there\'s just a little bit you see at the top and every thing else is at the bottom. For me, acting is kind of a hobby, I don\'t expect to make any kind of living from it.. Anyways, the reason why most good Shakespeare actors get into movies is because acting for movies is MUCH easier.. in this Audition techniques class I\'m doing, my teacher says I\'m doing a good job of turning the acting down, because on film you see every little thing but you in stage acting you have to make sure the audience at the very back can see and understand you. Shakespearean actors pretty much HAVE to be good, because nothing in his work is like \"I kinda want to do this.. maybe\", it\'s always \"I AM going to do this!!\" And like I say, it\'s easier to give a director to much and go down (Montgomery Clift) than to not know anything and keep trying to bring it up (Brad Pitt)... Okay, mini acting rant over..
