I have a friend who converted his car to run on veggie oil (fat frier oil from Mac Donalds) and pays 40 cents a gallon!!

Arthur, oil is used a LOT in making electricity. Gasoline of fuel-switching power stations are quite common, and it is also used in what they call \'composite fuels\' by spraying over coal to make it more efficient. Euro countries should not be too affected since the catastrophic downfall of the dollar has made oil much more affordable for them than for the US but pretty much everybody else is affected.

I think that Arthur was refering to the fact that France produces 80% of it\'s electricity by nuclear, 17% by hydraulic or wind or geothermic sources, and only 3% is with oil.

There can be a very long \'cascade effect\' with oil. Nuclear or whatever may not on the face of it rely on oil but how do you get the fuel rods to the plant? How do the workers get to work? How do spare parts get to the plant? Etc....Almost everything in our lives is in some way influnced by oil. The plastic of our keyboards, the tractor that plows the field to grow our food, many of the pipes and fittings that bring water to us. It is a HUGE Achillies heel of our society.
