Hi guys, I have been loitering around the forums for some time now and have had a chance to see good painters become great painters with the advice and critiques of you fellow painters.

This being the case, I thought it about time that I did the same.

My first WIP is this:

Sorry about the bad picture quality, I broke my good camera and had to borrow my dads :(

I like the GW morathi model and have decided to go with this midnight blue scheme and so far and generally happy with it.

However I know theres a lot needing done to it and thought i\'d see what you guys suggest.

All comments and advice on how to progress/improve this model are welcome!

you didn\'t use GW paint for the coat did you?

Unfortunately until payday, all I own are GW paints. As of payday though, I will be purchasing some Vallejo and some others to give them a try.

Also some of my GW paints are still the first ones they ever released, back in the days of citadel colour, with the golden demon on the front of the box :D

Well I havent updated in a while because of work and other RL stuff, but I have done a little more work on Morathi and have started a touch-up/rework of Gigantor the Mercenary wizard.

My original version of Gigantor is:

I was pleased when I first worked on him, but felt I needed to give him a second go to try and improve on my skills which have stagnated over the last 5 years due to inactivity in the realms of painting.

The following pics are of my current progress of reworking him:

I have not forgotten Morathi. She has been on a back burner, but I have done a little work on her:

I have got my better camera back so hopefully these pics will be better quality. However I did take them at night using a single lamp as a light source so they arent as good as they could be.

Anyway, if folks could perhaps give me some advice and criticism on how to progress with these as the more I can learn from you guys, the better I will get...

:D

Did some more work on Morathi tonight. I did some work on the base and have added some more highlights to various areas including the dark blue.

I still dont think she is finished as of yet, but am stuck where to progress from here? I am almost tempted to do some runes or designs on the flat areas of her coat, but I am concerned I will mess it up if I go for it. Anyhoo, any advice on this or how to improve the base are welcome!

I started work on a new model yesterday and this is my progress as of this afternoon!

The highlights on the robes seem a little heavy handed, but what I really want to know is what do you think of it?

Also this is the first time I have actually managed to take a picture whilst its been day time, I think its come out better than my other ones, but I also think I may need to slightly diffuse the light a little.

All tips, advice and criticism are most welcome as my other models didnt seem to get that many and I would really like to get some advice from some of the great painters that frequent these forums...

hummmm, on morathi, id go a few steps lighter on the blue
(esp. around the sholders). contrast is a good thing \'round here.

Well, I\'m not one of those \"great painters\" you were hoping to hear from, but I\'ll throw in my two cents anyways...

:)

I quite like the style on this fig - it\'s sort of \"cartoony\" but you\'ve managed to carry that throughout the figure, and I think it looks quite good. I can see what you mean about the very bright highlights on the blue, but I think they definitely work within the context.

The spots I think you might want to pay some more attention to are the blade, which is not nearly as bright and shiny as the rest, and also that bag tied under the skulls, which seems quite subdued when compared to the bright colours on the rest. Maybe purple highlighted with pink would be more suitable than the current greyish tones.

Just my opinion, of course.

Ive done a little bit more work on the shammy (not much as have had a hectic couple of days)

Ive tidied up the blue highlights a bit and done some work on the gums and teeth (thanks to the guys are rogue painters for their advice)

I really think this model is coming on a lot better. Am going to have to get some pics, where the light isnt causing too much over contrast on one side.

Scrolling up and down to see before vs. after...

Wow, that hint of pink to suggest the gums makes a huge difference doesn\'t it?

Good stuff.
