Hey, kids.

I just wanted to drop a quick note to congratulate all the winners. Some fine, fine, fine, fine, fine work was entered. I was floored by the sheer number of exceptional models I saw. With Atlanta having broken my cherry, I can say I\'m hooked and can\'t wait to attend another Games Day in the future.

Beyond this, I\'d like to say it was super to meet so many of the CMON folks. I don\'t post here much but I do lurk. So, I knew some names and \"felt\" like I kind of knew you. Anyhow, I\'d like to especially thank Scott (Grumb) and Dawn (Reddawn) for their gracious hospitality and super ribs! I had a great time. Thanks for having me by. I hope to see you all next year.

Bye!

Yep, you are right DFD...and that is a perfect example of why one should not post facts after just a few hours of sleep...thanks for the correction, fixed my post.

@Whizard Hlavaz - Darin it was great meeting you and your friends, you are all welcome to come by anytime! Look forward to doing this again next year!

Thanks for the image gallery, the pictures are GREAT! Congrats to Angela - I think she has 3-4 kids......I just had a baby, and can\'t conceive of painting 1 miniature, let alone 2 Golden Demon quality entries. Fantastic!

Had a GREAT time at GD!

I just wanted to say a BIG, BIG \"THANK YOU\" to TAB (Tracy), IPM (Becca) & HMHA (Stefan)!!! They worked their butts off at our house and the bbq wouldn\'t have been nearly as nice without all their hard work - thanks ya\'ll!

@MatthewBaich - I\'m very sorry we didn\'t get a chance to meet you! Next year you\'ll just have to come up and introduce yourself and just ask if we\'re from CMON! I promise, I don\'t bite! :D And hey, if I can walk up to SaxonAngel and ask if that\'s who she is I think anybody can ask me if I\'m RedDawn! (I was scared to death! I really had nothing to worry about - she\'s actually very sweet.)

Anyway, I wanted to apologize to everyone for not getting the \"CMON\" badges done - just ran out of time since taking care of the dog threw such a wrench in the works. I PROMISE I will try and make them for next year - AND early enough that I can mail them to people ahead of time! (And get Borg\'s ok on them! :D )

OK - dead tired, and rambling and still need to go get some homeopathic meds for the dog and hope that she\'ll be walking by the end of this week :(

Just wanted to say that we hope to make the BBQ an annual event and EVERYONE\'S welcome - kids, parents, etc. SO, next year, if you can/want, plan on eating some good food, drinking beer (or soda!), and hanging out at our place after GD. P.S. That means - if you can - no early flights on Sunday! (Sorry for all ya\'ll that had to get up sooo early after leaving our place sooo late! :D )

Who here is coming to GD Toronto? We gotta meet up :) hehe

And anyone here in town who needs rides around, if people want to get together after as well, for dinner, ice cream, etc...I can drive people back to hotels, etc so that won\'t be a problem :D

I had an AMAZING time!

at first I cared that I didn\'t make first cut, but you know what, theres next year. AND i met some AMAZING people, great staff members from GW (never again will i bash GW) and hung out with some fun people and fantastic friends

let me tell you I will always remember the \"Do these shoes match\" pose

too much fun

theres so many stories, and the pictures are great (poor scotty-kins and dawn, they must be exhausted)

all in all a great GD, and let me just say some of you all may have anamosity toward the judges but I just wanted to say that they all were very nice and helpful, you may not agree with them but its essential to respect what they do.

I throughly enjoyed it and have already planned some entries for next year! WEEEEEEEEE

I\'m home and off to collapse for the next 14 or so hours.

Was happy with making first cut in Fantasy and LOTR singles, but disappointed in myself for not pulling a trophy this year. That\'ll teach me to wait until three weeks before the competition to get started, I suppose. :) Still, I had a great time and felt competitive, so I can\'t complain.

As for the people using purchased models to enter the competition...report them immediately. If they won a Demon, they robbed someone out of a legitimate award.

Finally, had a great time meeting Angela, Becca, Tracy and all, and enjoyed seeing the \'old crew\' again.

I had a great time, too. My only regret is falling out of sync with everyone else by going to lunch early, but we were absolutely starved. Feels like I only got to chat with folks a little bit here and there as a result. Next GD, I\'m going to have entries finished well in advance so that I don\'t exhaust myself beforehand... yeah, yeah, we all say that, don\'t we? :)

One mini that stood out for me was the Slannesh character with the banner. Was that one of SaxonAngel\'s? That was frickin\' beautiful. Lot of nice single figures overall. There were also quite a few entries that didn\'t place but had some really excellent concepts, like a sorcerer throwing blue ghost/fireball thingers and a necron lord converted from a Tomb King chariot.

Ditto, I agree completely. I\'m hoping this is just a rumour and that nobody was actually enough of an ass to enter minis that weren\'t theirs.

PS - Think I\'m going to be lazy tonight and mess with photos of the tyrant tomorrow, incidently.

I had the best of time. :D
I was so thankful for Scott and Dawn as well as William and Bennett to accommodate us.
I Thank every GW employee that made my day there were many.... but a few jut out
Justin Dark Zealot Studios and the Annapolis bunch for replaced all the models of my Woodelf army and more to replace the ones I gave for the WOH project. I was stunned and well it is hard to make me cry but one point in time a middle age woman wandered around crying holding a large box of goodies.

Thank you \"Lance\" in direct sales from GW
\"Lance\" gave my son a $20 from his own pocket because Stefen did not have enough for a Eldar Falcon to go with the kit he had gotten.
Well Lance....he assembled it before we even went to bed last night and will send you a picture as soon as he is done.

CMON\'ers I felt very special to meet and share laughs with with you all, Thank you and we hope you all are safe and well rested at home now.
We are sitting around the dining room table painting and sharing stories. We had a damn good time and I owe you all for that.

I don\'t believe any those youngbloods that won painted their own stuff, I think their parents did it, either that or they really really really practice, oh, and the reason I didn\'t make first cut was because a stray piece of gold, 3 of the first cut models had more stray strokes then me. Frickin bull. :flame: destroy judges!

Had fun meeting every one, and I was quite pleased with my results of making first cut in both 40k and Fantasy single, the (imho) two hardest categories.

Unfortunatly, I will probably not be able to make it to Atlanta next year, due to school, but I will try!

Billy,

OK, I\'ve watched you rant for a bit now, and I think its time for a little love, but its called tough love.

You mentioned a few pages ago that you spent 10 hours on the mini that you\'d done for Games Day. I\'m going to say you spent 20 hours just to cover the basing and any final touches that you may have done before the competition. Quite honestly, many of us spend more time then that on minis that we\'re painting just for the gaming table.

I know several of the folks who were in the main competition that spent over 100 hours a piece on the entries that they entered. And several of them didn\'t win, a couple of them didn\'t make first cut even.

What I\'m trying to say here is don\'t rail against the judges and the unfairness of the competition. Like open voting here on CMON, its all subjectives. Sometimes you catch someone\'s eye and sometimes you don\'t. Spend your energy practicing, painting more, and getting better. Make an even better entry for next year and try again... ;)

Cheers,
Grumb

More to the point, if the judge was willing to talk to you about your entries and point out areas that need to be improved, you should be thankful rather than bitter and vitriolic towards him.

Personally, I was very grateful to the judge I spoke with (whose name I didn\'t catch) for his input on my models.

Oh come on. I was in line behind the kid who won the silver in youngbloods when his mom was taking his picture in front of the case because he made first cut. THe kid was stoked. I looked at the first cut, and told him he had a good chance of placing. Turned out he got silver, because most of the stuff in youngbloods does indeed look like it was painted by kids under 16. I\'ve got no doubts all those were painted by kids. It all looked
like my own stuff from 15 years ago, and nothing I painted would have placed back then. I went to Games Day in back in 1993 and didn\'t place, but I thought I could paint back then. I was wrong. Practice, practice some more, read tips on forums, and keep praticing and painting. Ask for critiques and push yourself. That\'s how to win a Golden Demon.

I hope I don\'t sound like I\'m knocking anyones work. That\'s not my intent. I know what it takes to place in the Demons, and the Youngbloods entries looked like youngbloods. It takes balls to even step up and enter, so kudos to all of them. Lots of patience and practice, and a little bit of knowing what fits in with the GW imagery that the judges are looking for and anyone can get there.

Everyone\'s got there grips, but that\'s the way it goes. Not much you can do unless there was a clear and solid violation of a rule (other than basing rules which don\'t ever seem to matter).

I flew all the way from Sacramento, CA. But the in laws live up near Kennesaw so we have an excuse to make the trip and bring the kids to see their grandparents. And I did go to Tech and lived downtown for seven years then, so I\'ve got a soft spot for Atlanta.

Sorry I didn\'t really meet anyone, bit of a lurker and introverted. Got gold in 40K squad with my inquisitor band and bronze in LOTR single with the cave troll, and made first cut with 4 of my other 5 entries. So it was worth the trip I guess. If anyone goes to GDLA, maybe I\'ll see you there.
