I must admit the pictures of the minis do leave me feeling underwhelmed. However, having been to 2 GD myself, I know how much the pictures leave out and it is very difficult to truly appreciate the figures from just the pictures.
In any event, the most technically correct figure will get you past first cut more often then not, but to place involves more of a mood or feel the figure/s create.
Painting, especially for Golden Demons is more about the feel of the figure and whether it fits in the fluff AS WELL AS the conversion and painting skill displayed.
There really is more to it than smooth blends and creative head swaps....
It took me my first Golden Demon contest to figure that part out.
