I\'ve read this post and I\'m going to wade into it.
Ive been in the model competition circuit for nearly 30 years, and I\'ve seen a few cheaters. Artorius, let me tell you, what you do is not wrong. Many painter wish they had somebody like you. A couple of friends of mine do commission work and it not unusual for them to say they will enter the model at a competition. So please do not take offense, keep doing what you do and enjoy.
Entering a model built by someone else under your name is cheating. I\'ve been noticing it is happening more and more. I\'m not sure that it is happening more now that before but 10 years ago, the internet and eBay wasn\'t quite around so verifying the owner was nearly impossible and buying minis more difficult. We would have a situation where someone would enter the same winning model every few years. Catching that is based on peoples memory and being there at the shows.
Part of this problem is GW\'s. There was never a rule that stated you had to be the creator and painter of said piece entered. Only lately was it added . The rule only stated that you have to be there to enter it and at the end of the show to pick it up. this brings up proxy models, someone entering a model for a friend but under the real owner name. This happen all the time at other competition. I\'ve done it, both taking model and sending models. Here\'s why GW wants the owner there to enter. Say a friend asks for you to take his model to a GD, You go to the show pay your ticket, go the the GD table, fill out your form, fill out your friend form and enter the models. What\'s missing????? ..........Did you pay for a ticket for your friend or would you just slip it in, nobody will know. Also remember that GW wants to use the shows as prmotion. They want to enter photos in the White Dwarf & online to show how big it is. If proxies are allowed, what, a extra 100, 200 people would enter but the warm bodies are not in the picture and the warm bodies x $30 is missing.
Oh, by the way, when I proxy, I paid the entery fees. Correct me if I\'m wrong but GW can not publish a photo of the offender in the WD labeling him a cheater because they could be sued for invasion of privacy or something like that. As much as I say it GW fault, you can not fault them. people will alway cheat. Some will take the rule to it\'s limit. If the rules don\'t state it then you are not breaking the rules. It would be absolute impossible at a GD to try to verify the ownership of a model in the time span of a few hours. There will always be cheaters, that human nature.
For team efforts, I\'m 80% against it. To me it\'s dissapointing to see a beauitiful scratch-built piece in everyway, execution to painting, only to find out it was a team. I know, you can say that every piece is a team effort, the GW sculptor and you the painter, but that piece is being judged on painting not the sculpt. It\'s a feather in your cap if you can beat a team effort.
GW needs one set of rules for all shows and not let certain shows rewrite them rules and they have to enforce the rules. For example, my biggest gripe if the \" ethos \" part of the rules. The mini need to look like a GW product . I\'ve seen certain minis where the artist tries to give his interpitation, But in very few cases do I see GW put their foot down an say this is disqualified. They have evey right to do so, it\'s their show, their product. At certain show, the organizers let alot go and win. It\'s more of a challenge to stay within the rules and be creative than break the rules to be creative.
Rant off....Now back to work...hears a crack of the whip and the smell of the coffee brewing..coffee breaklol
