GD entry and paints

Ok, fairly simple question. I want to enter a model into the 2007 UK Golden Demon.

I was just about to order some Vallejo paints, and it dawned on me - if I paint a model using Vallejo, will I run into problems if I enter it into GD? I\'m taking the stance that using Mediums and the odd colour here and there isn\'t going to make much difference, but what about if I paint the bulk of the model?

I think you will be fine mate, to be honest, can you look at a mini and automatically know what brand of paints is used?

I am also 100% Sure that a very reliable member of here stated they had visited the GW studio and all of the Eavy metal artists were using Vallejo colours on the Games workshop studio bits!!!

Also, in this months White Dwarf where several slayer sword winners are interviewed, only one of them stated that he only uses GW paints exclusiveley.

What about it? There are no rules stating that you must use GW paints for the obvious reason that it\'s impossible to check. :p

Been doing it for the last 3 years and unless they scratch a bit off and have it analysed I doubt they\'ll ever know.

Hey the Dwarf Lord I did which is in the back of the Dwarf Army Book is all Vallejo.....Shhhh don\'t tell anyone. :D

How did you manage to work out you can\'t do a top paint job using only the GW range or even the Vallejo game colour which is the same.

Nope..... all my entries and winners are a mixture of paints and some 100% non GW..

Golden Demon requires a good job to win, so it would be impossible to make a masterpeice with just the 50-60 different paints in the Citadel range. And if they were to ban using other paints, they might as well ban you from mixing Citadel colours with each other...

Thats a load of crap.. 50-60 paints and you don\'t think you can paint a winning model? Have you ever herd of mixing?

I usually only use 10 pots or less... It really doesn\'t take all that much.

Hehe, didn\'t think that my question would cause as much debate as this, but its all quite constructive :p

Well I\'ve placed an order for some Vallejo now, so will be using them in the future alongside my Citadel ones :)

Yup, sorry Tahn but that really is a load of crap as has already been stated. How many paints do you think were used on this winner from Spanish GD? I\'m thinking a lot less than 60!

Tahn: I think what people generally believed you ment was that it is impossible to make a masterpiece with GW paints. that\'s what people reacted to.. not sure why they reacted with such spite though. What you also could have ment is that it is impossible to make a good job without mixing... but that\'s more a question of technique. I often blend without mixing paint.

I would also feel restricted if I only could use GW paints.. but I\'d feel the same if I only could use Vallejos.

Yeah, I understand what you mean.

My point is: GW paints might not be preferred by every painter, so stopping people from using other brands could stop some painters paint as well as they would want to. I personally use GW, but also VMC because it has certain shades that I wouldnt be able to mix as well.

And why so much spite any way guys? I often wonder this about CMON...

There was certainly no spite intended in my reply. Perhaps it is the written word being taken as way more offensive than if the same thing had been said in conversation that has caused your upset.

Just because we said you were talking crap doesn\'t mean we hate you. It just means that we think you were talking crap!

I could throw out the excuse that I was copying the bigger boy who said it before me (and to be honest I probably would have opted for \'that\'s complete nonsense\' if it wasn\'t for the fact that I was agreeing with Dragon Forge\'s statement, because I\'m well aware how these things can be misinterpreted when written), and I\'m sorry if the choice of wording upset you, but in regards to the point we picked out you were, in our opinions, way off - hence us saying you were talking crap. It wasn\'t meant in a nasty way though.

You said \'it would be impossible to make a masterpiece with just the 50-60 different paints in the Citadel range\' and never modified that opinion in your second post. To me it was complete nonsense, so I expressed my opinion in return.

I still maintain that you were talking crap, but hopefully you now understand that no offense was meant by it. We all talk crap every now and then, and we all berate our mates for doing so. That\'s all that has happened here. Don\'t stress about it, it\'s all good (I hope)!

Now where\'s the group hug smiley?

Lol, I see what you mean! What I said did seem pretty crap. So I wanna forget I said anything in this thread! Sorry lads.

But I can\'t seem to find a group hug smiley... lol
