Well, there was VERY little space for all the 40K Squad entries, so even when they put the winners into the top level of the glass cube, Tim\'s squad kinda had to fit in sideways (it was a long, narrow display base). Photography of it on display was prolly pretty tough. But i got some great pics of them, and they\'ll be on the web by the end of this week, i think.

i got some details of Vincent\'s subtle faces on his Lustwing Terminators, too. REALLY stunning work!

Of course, Tiffany, we need to see more of YOUR work out there behind the glass at the next Games Day! But i think you make a good impression anywhere you go, dearie...

Well! What a day this was!

First of all, as I\'m terrible with all the names, I\'ll just say thanks to all for a wonderful day of chatting, metting all of you was the highlight, humm... the blending of my day .

I was terrbly saddened to realize that with the lighting, 80% of my work on my Slaneesh Lustwing squad did not show. There were 20 wailing faces freehanded on each terminator (that\'s 120 of \'em in all) Judging was done with ambiant lighting, and not under one of Dirty\'s 600 000 watt lightbulbs. Very disconcerting. As Dirty said, some runner ups were Gold and slayer quality. Judging is judging, all who were there will understand that I shall not comment it as it is not my place to do so. I will point out that there was awesome turnout and excellent quality, a lot more than the podium shows. Great models on the podium of course, but a great deal of great models in the runner ups too. EricJ got lucky with his main entry and it did not place. He\'ll get to enter it again.

I was surprised to see how conversions were left out of the podium. There was a lot of nice conversions, but it almost seemed a deterrent during judging, hence fewer converted models on the podium than usual. Dunno why. I spent most of my efforts on conversions, my entries were all 60-80% scratchbuilt, and that did not attract attention of the judge at all.

Congrats to all the First cut entries, podium worthy stuff all over. Congrats to the winners of course. Adam, great to meet ya, that Chappy was terrific. Tim, congratulations on your success! Great to have met you also, I was particularily fond of the freehand on that mounted daemonette and that BT group looked very sharp. EricJ, a pleasure to meet you, we shall meet again, we\'ll have to make due on our traveling plans eventually, but not this year for me.

A question: Who made the Shaggoth that won gold in WHFB large? I\'d like to speak to him/her! Gorgeous!

I\'ll try to take some pics tonight of my Termies and post them, they look so much better at home under my lighting than a gymnasium light hanging 40 feet overhead...

Calm down! :flip: no need for petty rivalries here, the essence of GD is friendly competition. Any good painter requires skill. They can be super hyper mega hero skilled, and paint a stunning model with terrifying ease; or they can have a lesser level of skill and just be very dedicated, experienced, determined and hard-working. My own level of skill is not that high-I just spend a long time on my models, and paint carefully. I was mildly disappointed when I didn\'t win a bronze at GD UK 05, but in some of the adult categories there were some superb models that must have taken hundreds of hours-the standard is so high, they only made first cut. Then I thought how pissed off I would have been if I had really expected a win. Now that the GD review book is out, I can see from the Youngbloods winners that I was way below their standard; I pick up on earlier flaws and each time I paint a mini, it is better than my last. What I am saying here, to both of you, is that it isn\'t good for anybody to get their hopes too high, no matter their experience, skill or whatever. Learn from your mistakes and improve. Each time you paint a mini, think \"what could I have done better?\" and be careful with that area on your next mini. The sign of a good artist is one who can pick up on their own major flaws without being told by someone else. Work hard and keep practising, and there is nothing stopping either of you from winning a trophy or making the finals.

Oh...i checked the winners forms that Cassie filled out for me... The Shaggoth that won Gold in the Fantasy Large Model or Group category was done by Leo Gonzales. He also won Silver in the Open with his Skrag the Slaughterer model. GREAT stuff!! His Shaggoth was a hot contender for the Sword!

I meet a lot of other guys and I am soooo bad with names. There was a fantastic tech marine too.

How did you end up doing in the Tourney? I know you won your first game, but didn\'t hear how you did after that?

As for the rest about the demons, I\'m reserving judgement until I have a bit of time to think it over. Definately gained a ton of insight into what is involved in winning these things, which I\'m taking back to the workshop with me. So watch out next time, I think I have another notch or 3 in me to raise the level of my entries.

As far as I can remember, we only got one group shot, in front of the in and out burger. And that was on a film camera, from Amypaintsminis I think...she\'s on the road for the next month or something, and will have to get film developed.... SO...I guess that was a long way to say - No we don\'t

I really like some bits of those templars, like the crozius, but the cloth isn\'t so good IMHO, its pretty \'roughly\' layered (for a slayer winner) and I\'m not so keen on the effect. I am aware that these are large close ups, so I\'m guessing it looks better IRL, but still, I\'d expect more from a slayer winner.

yeah his style isnt really trying for smooth blends, its all about a very sharp clean electric look that is just amazing to look at.

I must admit I was expecting more from this squad. Before I get slagged off Iknow I can\'t paint as well, but thecompetition is aboutthe best & I feel there were 2 winners that were better!

Well.. It\'s been said before. But those are some very sharp pictures, so all mistakes will be entirely visible. I wasn\'t there and held them in my hands.. so I will wait for the entire coverage and then I can only judge what I think look better in picture.

But.. I heard that the lighting where they judged was pretty bad. So that favoures a sharp, contrasted style while \"perfect\" blending might not be as important. I mean there were definately miniatures better blended then some of the winners at the UKGD. I could see very visible transitions on many entries even through the glass and with that crappy lighting (I don\'t want to name anyone).. but there are many other, both reasonable and questionable aspects as well when it comes to a competition like GD.

Well, looky, looky at that everyone. Eric\'s Banner Bearer, ....yes the very one I purchased from the Works of Heart charity auction, took a BRONZE PLACE GD TROPHY at the 2006 LA Games Day this year. <laughing and jumping up and down delirously>.
