GD LA

Hm. Not super keen on the squad, although there are some really interesting elements (such as the crozius, as mentioned - that part is amazing). Flesh and cloth feel kinda flat to me. It\'s probably just a matter of taste and a subjective thing - maybe I\'m just not into the style he\'s using.

The first two Swords of the year haven\'t quite done it for me, but we\'ll see how Canada, Baltimore and Chicago go. Thing is, I feel the Slayer should leave the viewer totally FLOORED by the skill and creativity of the entry. It should be breathtaking.

That\'s my opinion, anyway :D

@Kathryn - That was very nice of you to lend the piece back to Eric for the deamons.

As for the entrees in general, all I can say is they\'d all look better if they\'d been painted in Europe. lol:bouncy:lol

Well... I\'m just sad I was never a part of this community before the event. Talking with Vincent off and on throughout the day, and meeting Eric J (At least I\'m pretty sure I did, but the J is confusing me with the last name starting with an S as I recall...) convinced me, though. Now I see what I missed! Lunches! Dinners! Beers! Sigh...

Very nice to meet you folks, and good to see familiar faces again, even if I didn\'t get a chance to speak with you. Congrats to all the winners, first-cutters, and entrants! Sure was a long, gruelling day.

I believe I did meet you briefly after the trophies were handed out when you were talking with Vincent. Well next one we\'ll be sure to get you involved in all the cmon fun! I\'d love to chat with you more, but yes, by the end when I figured out who you were, I was worn out from the day and was just thinking about finding myself some dinner.

Next time!

Great fun!

People I met:
EricJ
Tagron
Commander Y (I doubt you remember)

I made top 10 but I didn\'t place. Stupid to GW is discrimitory against LotR minis!

hmmmm...

another U.S GD and another slayer sword winner which has people saying \"meh\'...

I like parts of the entry, but other parts, particularly the skin and basing make me think it is \'army standard\'.

I\'d love to see some other pics of it, and the other entries to make a better judgement, and am a little surprised that they haven\'t been posted quicker.

Yea, I saw Eric\'s wood elf from the Works of Heart auction and his witchhunter squad. If I had to guess, I\'d say picture #\'s 122/23 and 236 are also EricJ entries.

Well, looky, looky at that everyone. Eric\'s Banner Bearer, ....yes the very one I purchased from the Works of Heart charity auction, took a BRONZE PLACE GD TROPHY at the 2006 LA Games Day this year. <laughing and jumping up and down delirously>.

Wow oh wow ! Do I know how to pick a winner or what !!!!!

I was confused with that. I thought he maybe sold it and bought it back or something. I don\'t know...

I just made it back from L.A. and got to check the boards. Must say I had a lot of fun and GD LA and was shocked to win a Demon in 40k single. I was very impressed by the entries (the photos of the slayer sword winner on the GW site don\'t do it any justice.) Eric\'s 40k entry was my favorite of the show. Somehow (I have no idea..) it didn\'t place much less win the sword, makes me kind of feel like milli vanilli winning a grammy...

Other than that it was good to meet some of you, although it was quite brief. I just got a digital camera and am going to start taking pics of my work. Hope to become a bigger part of CMON as it\'s helped my painting enormously in the past year.

See you around

Hey Quentin, I\'m glad you introduced yourself at the event even if you hadn\'t been active in the forums here previously. Great job on a trophy and I\'m looking forward to seeing more of your entries in the future.

And of course nice to see you around the forums, it\'s a great place to get a ton of painting feedback, and to generally waste time in a fun way :)

Eric, I don\'t meen to put presure on you but I think that everyone in the entire painting comunity would love a full tutorial from you.
I have a few questions for you:
Do you prime over black or white?
What do you thin with?
How do you acheve such amazing blends?
What is your color recipe for steel nmm?
Why the hell didn\'t your witch hunter win gold? ???

@Quentin
Did you paint the inquisitor or the green grey knight?

I had the green grey knight. Not what I was intending to enter but a bad can of spray primer put a big time crunch on my \"real\" entry. I\'ll try and get that one finished up soon and posted.

LOL, ok, I\'m convinced of the photo argument. That photo of gollum feels like more glare than paint is showing through! It looks drybrushed there, from that shot I could convince myself I can\'t paint :(

On the bright side, the standard bearer showed up in photos a little better. Oh well! :)

I have a few questions for you:
Do you prime over black or white? - I always Prime white, although often paint all or most of it black, it really varies depending on the surface

What do you thin with? Nothing but water

How do you acheve such amazing blends? well, you wouldn\'t believe I could blend at all from that photo of gollum! lol but I do a lot of layering and glazes, and often it\'s just a factor of time spent

What is your color recipe for steel nmm? Black, shadow grey, space wolf grey, white

Why the hell didn\'t your witch hunter win gold? ??? lol staying away from this whole topic

Again nice to meet you, thanks for the kind words about the witchhunter, I know you got to see her up close

hiooooowhch!

Those GW photos are... um. We\'ll they are BIG, maybe that\'s why the french seem so much better than us yanks... smaller photos? or maybe not (I\'m kidding.)

The grey knight dred looks so smooth. I think it was too subtle for the room lighting at the GD, looks great in the bigger photos though! good work.

Eric was kind enough and the first to volunteer for painting...so he got the Limited edition Elf from the army box, that kicked off the Works of Heart to begin with. Vote of confidence meant the world to all of us here.

Kathryn,a wonderful collector and person bought it in the WOH auctions and then loaned it back to Eric to compete in the Demons.
Fine gestures from both of these artists.
So every one was a winner in this Bronze.

Congratulations Eric from all of us here
Tracy Todd Becca and Stefen.

Well deserved wins to you all.
