I originally painted it for ebay, and took aproximately 12 hours total, but since golden demon was the same week i decided that i\'d enter it for a laugh (nothing to lose i guess)

I didn\'t expect it to win anything, but i\'m pleased to say it did make the cut.

Apparently the Judges thought it was painted by alexi_z at first, which i can understand looking at it, although i didn\'t paint it to immitate her style, it\'s just the way it ended up turning out.

Please tell me what you think.

Thanks a lot. Joe, Broken-blade.

Cheers Guys!

The blues were all based around regal blue, the cloak was darkened a bit for the basecoat, the eagle on the sheild was lightened a bit, really pretty simple, no rocket science here...

My word, I had no idea that was yours at Golden Demon. I think I may have been the one that stickered it actually. Myself and a few others thought it might have been Alexi_Z\'s because of the finesse of the paint job and the colour choices, so you should most definately take that as a compliment.

It\'s scarily smooth and it should have figured more in the final judging in my humble oppinion.

I can\'t suggest any room for improvement. The fact that it took 12 hours is thoroughly depressing! Throw 36 hours into a model and I can\'t see how they can avoid giving you the Slayer Sword!

Hehe, thanks again,

well to tell the truth, it just isn\'t good enough, i\'m not the kind of person who will say oh i was just unlucky on the day, i know how tough gd is nowadays, and knowing what the entries by Albert and co looked like just made it even tougher, i do have a \"proper entry\" started, which already has 50 ish hours put in, and it\'s about 1/10th done, but i knew a few months ago i\'d never get it finished in time.

last year i dediated many, many hours into gd and came away with nothing which kind of put me off, but im truly inspired again after seein the stuff this year, it was a great day :)

Ah, but last year you kinda spread yourself too thin if you don\'t mind me saying so. The time that you must have taken for that huge diorama for Open, you could have done an amazing entry or two for the normal categories instead.

Your Calgar squad must have consumed a fair bit of time too, and you were just unlucky to be involved in what was one of last year\'s stronger cattegories. I realise that I\'m on shaky ground here as far as disrespecting this years squad winners but I honestly think that Calgar and his retinue would have done much better this time around.

It\'s good to know you are going to have another proper go at the Demons next year.

It\'s interesting (and rather refreshing too after reading other reactions to not placing at GD elsewhere) that you say you know it wasn\'t good enough to place. I guess I know what you mean. The work and time taken evident in the actual winners, what with the conversions, bases and the like did make them leap out a lot more, but what I saw under the cabinet lights showed that paint wise yours was just as good.

So I guess you know the recipe for success next year. Go for tripple choc chip with cookie dough and marshmallows rather than a vanilla Elf!

Fantastic, but we would expect nothing less from you joe!

Glad you haven\'t jacked in Golden demons altogether, I remember your interview with White Dwarf when you said that competing is what it is all about for you. The competition is tough, and keeps getting tougher each year. Deep down I know I just aint good enough to win, but the fact that I keep making first cut and get to have my work compete against and be in the same cabinet as some of the best painters in the world (albeit on a lower shelf..!) keeps making me push myself harder and coming back for more. Plus, the fact that you end up with a great miniature you can be proud of means I never come away disappointed.

Voted and commented, be proud of this one mate, it deserves it! Hope to see more next year.:)

Yeah i finally got to see your work in the flesh. I managed to actually get a look at a few minis and this was one i was impressed with. Nice one Joe ;)

Truely top notch. I can\'t quite put my finger on why it was a 9 to me and not a 10 but it is truely great. You did in 12 hours what takes most top painters 50+.

Fantastic mini mate! Glad to see you decided to enter something after all. As has been already said I agree that just a \"vanilla elf\" like this would not win a demon these days. The actual paint job can be the very best, smoothest, 100% no faults - it is the conversions, setting, bases, theme and everything else that makes a demon winning entry, purely because there are so many top notch paint jobs on display the judges have to look at the other aspects to choose between them.

I\'m hoping to put something together for next year and so I hope to join you in the cabinets next time around.

Beautiful Joe, just beautiful. I\'m a huge fan of your work and the competition must have indeed been tough if it didn\'t place.

Looks fantastic.:)
If u dont mind me asking, what colours did u use for the metals, the silvers specifically. Personally i feel the silver turned out flawless and in person it seemed as though the colours blended perfectly all over. Overall, great job.
