GD UK 2012 entry advice

Okay, so I am starting to get my shit together and entering that ork warboss I did a while back. It is not suitable as an entry that stands a chance, but I shall enter it regardless as its all I have and my best painting to date really. And its done apart from the base. Just needs going over with a finetooth comb to improve as much as possible.

Anyway, advice is required on securing the removable model to its base for transport etc - what do most people do to prevent any Laurel and Hardy type antics from those I hand my model in to? I was thinking magnets as it needs to be removed by judges I guess? Also what catergory does the ork warboss go in?

Anyway, help, advice etc appreciated.

Ork warboss would go into the Warhammer fantasy category I sure. The official rules are that the mini must be detachable from the plinth (but may dont) so your magnets or blue tak etc.

You have still got time for another entry if you want, maybe 40k or LOTR?

A bit confusing. You are planning on the model itself being removable from the base? I don't really get the reasoning for that. Or, do you mean the model on its base should be removable from a plinth? If so, it doesn't have to be, you can fix it to the plinth with glue. If you don't want to do that, fix it with magnets, a screw or even Blue Tac. But I'd suggest you fix it to the plinth to avoid any really bad issues.

Also, an Ork Warboss would be 40k not fantasy obviously. They usually go into the Monster category which would be a better idea than single mini as it tends to be a wee bit softer.

Golden demon rules state that the mini must be removable from the plinth.

Also an ork warboss can be 40k or fantasy depending on genre

An Ork Warboss can't be fantasy. Orks are 40k, Orcs are fantasy.

It doesn't have to be removable from the plinth regardless of what the rules may say. No judge is going to care one bit about that.

Well, I put minis through to final cut at Golden Demon 3 years in a row (granted it was a few years ago now) and models firmly secured to the plinth were preferred by all (including the final judging team) as there was less chance of breakages. It was ludicrous that some folks would just balance a model on top of the plinth totally unsecured as we had no idea it would come sliding off the moment we picked it up. I broke one entry due to this right in front of the guy collecting it. It was only a minor thing and he was fine with it, but I've seen a few situations on really excellent entries come close to carnage. You'll be fine just fixing it firmly in place as long as the judges can see a standard base is included in there.

Yeah it is 40K - Ork. And yes the reason I ask is because I thought I spotted a rule that states it has to be removable, but not to FIRMLY secure it seems suicide - I was thinking screw myself, they can unscrew it and would still be technically removable thing is, it is too late to incorporate a screw into the base properly and i thought magnets might be too weedy and someone may have a cleverer idea of securing it after i have already made the base. cheers for the replies guys!

Blutack is surprisingly solid. If a model is on a plinth of some kind generally the cabinet fillers/judges pick them up by the plinth so you just need to make sure it's not going to wobble around. Will probably go for a couple of magnets and bags of blutack on mine :)
