That is stupendous. Todd is a great guy and obviously, very talented painter. I can\'t wait to see all the entries.

Does anyone know which piece of his won?

Pics???

Oh man! It was a blast! This was the best GDLA so far, as many of us predicted! The quality of the entries this year was outstanding.

Yes Todd won the Sword with his lovely Festus model, which can be seen on the GW Slayer Sword Challenge site. Much more of a dark feel to that piece in real life. Breathtaking!

Tagron also had an amazing scratch built Salamander marine with freakishly tiny detail work in the banner. Words can\'t describe it!

Thanks for posting all those pics Meg :) :)

I managed to grab a gold in duel, and a bronze in WFB single. Got an honorable mention in LOTR with the Mahud King and 40k single with the commissioned Karandras in my gallery.

Exchanging a few words with Allan C and all the other amazing painters at the demon lounge were the best highlights of the day. :)

Can\'t wait till next year!

Thanks for those pics! Wow! I\'m particularily impressed by the improvements in Matt and Aarons painting (Lili has always been that damn good!).

While I\'m not personally a fan of the conversion on the first ogre, it is still one of the better paintjobs I\'ve seen out of a US demon show --easily! Same for Aaron\'s Slaanesh daemon. Just INCREDIBLE!! Matt\'s duel is my favourite from him, followed closely by that fantastic Vampiress. Then there is the high elf by Lili... Brilliant work all around.

Any word of tagron and Cocanour\'s results?

WOW.

What a day it was. My son and I are both still exhausted from GD but we had the absolute best time.

I want to throw out a huge thanks to the demon lounge and all the \"painting elite\" that shared their knowledge and insight with me. I am so very thankful for your time and advise.

Also a big thaks to the GW staff who spoke with me about my entries and what I need to do to improve.

A huge congradualations to all the winners ( I got a demon myself, for the record).

There we not a lot of entries at the Golden Demon, but the quality of figures was mindblowing. As best I could counter there were at least 9 previous Slayer Sword winners there. It was one of those you really had to be there to believe it. Absolutly amazing.

It looked to me that in all of the single figure categories, half of the entries made first cut.

I entered 40k single, and made first cut.

I also entered LOTR single and got a bronze for my Gollum.

My duel entry was an older model I did a few years ago and brought it along for grins. It did\'nt make diddly, but I like the model and had nothing to lose by entering it.

Huge thanks again to everyone. I was really awesome to put names to faces and to meet everyone there.

I am really looking forward to next year!!

Yep, even tho I didn\'t win anything, just 3 honorable mentions, it sure felt good to be back! Especially meetiing with the ever so nice and humble Todd Swanson, Adam Roe, Erven, Brice Cocanour, Allan C, Bryan Shaw, Tim Lison, Aaron and whole bunch of very talented painters. Too bad that I didn\'t know that Thierry Husser was there too - I wish I knew because I\'d love to say hi to him :( And Thierry sure kicked our butts with his entreis. That guy is simply amazing!

A not so good story, I heard that Dirty Steve was hospitalized for a perforated colon condition. I hope he\'s recovered and doing better :(

I sure hope to see you guys again next year!

I\'m a zombie!!!! Congrats to all the winners and really just to everyone who took that time and had the courage to enter! It was a great GD this year. I felt honored to walk around and just view all the great great work by so many different painters. Anyways, yes, I managed to get two demons this time out. One for my Ogre and one for my vindi from last year...I spruced it up a bit and it seemed to help out! I believe I HM with my Fantasy single and my LotR single. Both Fantasy and LotR single had a tremendous amount of totally cool entries. Fantasy single was said to be the toughest and deepest group of entries they had ever witnessed in North America. Tim Lison said afterwords that not only were the top three models just unbelievable but also that ALL of the HM\'s could have taken top honors at any other GD. The judging in Fantasy single went on and on and on...to the point where the judges sat back and said \"I dont know\" In the end it came down to the tiniest of flaws and imperfections that chose the winners and respective HM\'s. I was so glad to be a part of it. We took tons of pics but the people with the pictures are in transit right now so be patient (yeah right!!!). Here is a shot of my Galadriel.

Anyways, I had a blast...the Demon Lounge rocked!!! I made lots of new friends. I also had a blast at the Allan C sculpting lessons that started in Brice Cocanours room on Friday and ended in Trevor\'s room on Sunday. It was just too much fun hanging out with Allan, Todd, Andrew Lum and Paul from the big AU! Trevor, Brice, the experience was priceless!!!! Dinner after GDLA was fun as well with Todd, Andrew K and his girlfriend, todd friend (forgot the name), Trevor, Lili and Kirk, Brice, Me and Allan....just too much fun. My only regret was that EVERYONE couldnt\' make it! See you all next year!!!!

Anyone want to put odds on Todd getting the Slayer in Chicago in 2009? He\'ll be the Michael Phelps of the Painting world.

Great job Todd.

The field was small in all of the catergories, but the single mini categories were excellent. My only complaint is that it is always so dark. The details you can see in the pics posted in the above messages didn\'t come out to my eyes (the scratched plexiglass doesn\'t help either). At least I did see the judges using the photos lights at one point, so hopefully peoples\' efforts weren\'t lost entirely.

I\'m trying to mentally go through who the 9 Slayer winners would have been: Todd (x2), Lilli (x2), Allan C, Andrew, & Tim (did he enter anything though). Any others I didn\'t recognize or know?

My 2nd place entry was the inquisitor w/retinue.

I also made first cut with my Dark Mechanicus figure in 40K single, and a Nurgle Hellcannon in Fantasy large. I\'ll post pics sometime this week if I can.

Yeah Thierry won a couple;) It was a little funny as they just had him stay on stage because of winning multiple categories back to back. His stuff was beautiful. There was also a guy from Germany who now lives in LA, Evren Koca. He had some really nice stuff as well. The white paint on his Black Templar guy was just beautiful. The shading was perfect! In 40K single, Festus was 100 times better than any pictures I have seen of it including the ones in Todd\'s gallery. The dark gritty feel of the model gets lost in the lights so to speak. Adam Roe (tagron) got third with yet another full scupt terminator. It was from the Salamander chapter and was wicked cool! I must say the banner on that guy was probably the best painted banner I have ever seen...especially the back of it. Just unbelievable!!!! Also his blending has jumped leaps and bounds from last year. Not that his blending was bad last year but this year, it was sooooo smooth!
The number of entries was down from previous years but the quality was through the roof. I would say that there were at least 10 or more models painted to \"Slayer Sword\" quality. Most of those were in Fantasy single which is why it was the most hotly contested category. I\'ll never forget the look on the judges faces as they pulling the models out and then pushing them back and starting the judging process over.
Oh and I just loved all of Matt\'s textured fabrics that he was doing! His Vampire chick was just amazing to see...thats another one that loses the dark gritty feel in the photos. She was so pretty! He also did a full sculpt for his duel entry. The nurgle dude is scratch built. That entry is also darker and more moody in real life. Thierry and Everet brought some simply amazing peices and I feel fortunate to have seen them in person! Same with Todd Swanson....holy crap he is good!!! It was cool to see Anthony Nolan place again and also my buddy Jason Ball placed in 40K vehicle with a really cool ork jetbike conversion. My other friend, Bob Felix, placed with his ghoul squad. So yes, despite several guys getting boatloads of trophies, there were also plenty of first timers which was neat to see! Oh, GAR\'s golum was totally cool and it was really nice meeting him and his son there at the demon lounge. He is definitely a guy to watch out for in the future. Anyways, I know I left a ton of stuff out but I\'m still recovering from the event...I post things as they come to me.

I has a great time... I want to thank all the same people that Aaron, Lili, and Matt thanked. I am really excited for next year. As for the warhammer single cat. the judges looked like at one point had decided on entries then they pushed them back and worked some more on it then they also called over some of the other judges to help them decide.... The GW judges did a really good job for the single entries, there were so many great entries it would have been a very hard to decide. I was glad to be able to compete with them.

Thanks for John from GW and Aaron for setting up the deamon lounge. People were there all day asking questions and getting demos on how to blend or what ever they wanted. Allen C. from France did a fantastic sculpting class. I am on my way to doing a full sculpt....very exciting.

Congrats to Todd for getting another sword and to all the fantastic entries... it was a real privaledge to be in the company of so many great painters.

I had a great time at my FIRST ever Gamesday. I couldn\'t tear myself away from the Golden Demon area. There were some fantastic miniatures there. It was definitely inspiring. I brought both my sons with me too and they had a great time. My 8 year old wants to enter the youngbloods next year so I\'m excited and proud.

I found some of my stuff in there:
Inquisitor & retinue that got silver
Hellcannon on the left
Duel entry on left that took bronze

I\'ll still get better photos up here on CMON to see how the voting goes (hopefully bring my overall ranking up some...but probably not)

I remember (and really liked) the hell cannon and I also remember the duel entry. The squad, I must have completely missed even though I probably took pictures of it...my brain was such mush by then.

hmmm

what type of information did Allan C give during his sculpting class?

Any notes/paraphrasing would be helpful :)

Geeze, I totally forgot to mention this.

Gary Oldman was at GDLA. I saw him in the Golden Demon area looking at the LOTR figures when I was taking pictures of the demon winners.

I almost did not recognize him, but then it hit me who he was. If I had been thinking I would have taken a picture of him, but I more focussed on taking pictures of the minis.

Can you tell I am a complete mini geek.

Anyhoo, if any of you can remember, he was the guy wearing the brown \"Creem\" T shirt and khaki pants. Apparently his kids play or something, I did\'nt get the entire story as there was a lot going on at the end of the day.
