a couple of people have asked me about nmm, so i thought i would put up a quick pic with a brief description of the prcess.

sorry about the picture quality.

here is a sample of a piece i am currently working on. (ysis from rackham)

the armour was base coated with dark sea green (vmc) and then highlighted up by adding blue grey pale (vmc)
just before it got to the blue grey pale colour i started to add silver grey (vmc)

each stage so far was only about 3 stages each.

i then used a dark sea green (vmc) glaze leaving out the small parts of the highlights that were going to have the glare spots created on.
once this was dry i used a black glaze (vmc) to black line in between the metal plates and the enhance the deepest shadows to help create more contrast.

once this was dry i then touched up the glare spots with a very thinned down silver grey (vmc) a very thin wolf grey (vgc) simular to space wolf grey, was placed where the glare spots would be.
i then finaly added the glare spots with a thin galze of white. this took a coiuple of coats to build up allowing me to go smaller and smaller with the glare spots allowing the underneath tones/colours to show through until the effect was achieved.

Thank you for the tutorial, is always interesting to see how different people approach the nmm technique

I have to try your way to paint the glares, usually I paint them at the end using small glazes with darker paint to soften the transaction from the light to the shadows.

What I do like about this, is that the photo is showing the armour closer to the reality that I know you achieve.

Very interesting to see that you\'ve done the base first as well.

Ysis is a great figure to paint, just a right royal PITA to photograph.

now iv\'e put it up here, i may as well give a run down of the base.

the base is a standard cork construction typical to the rackham style.
as seen in cry havoc.

painting it, first off painted the rock with cold grey (vgc)
it was then dry brushed with stone wall grey (vgc)

the dirt was then painted with charred brown (vgc)
then dry brushed with earth (vgc) then a lighter dry brush of khaki (vgc)

the base then had various washes of dark drab green and brown place in little blobs around the earth and on the rock.

once this was dry the rock was given a light dry brush of stone wall grey followed by a couple of black glazes to enhance the shade.

after the glazes had dried i gave the entire base a light drybrush with khaki.

the moss was base coated with olive green (vgc)
then drybrushed with cayman green (vgc)
and finished with a very light dry brush of camoflage green (vgc)

i use vgc for bases as its harder wearing than vmc and a little more vibrant which helps off set the subdued colours/tones of my painting style.
