Germany moves to outlaw paintball

Just got back from a major paintball outing and found this

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/8041320.stm

Based on this logic sex must be outlawed immediately. It is incredibly dangerous, stimulates violent behavior, results in loss of human lives (see one William Shakespeare and other for the most graphic and gruesome descriptions), cause injuries and property damage

it must be performed exclusively in government run clinics under the supervision of highly trained and certified professionals.

all i have to say is paintball is awesome even if you break your leg while your at it lol and i believe if theres paintball places around then its a place where people can unwind and have fun and relieve stress.

I think of it more as an anger managment more then making people want to go off and shoot people.

banning paintbaal, while a little over the top, i can see, but banning lasertag i cant. but on the other hand, the country has just witnessed a trgedy, whcih is enough to make anyone go to extreams. if they thinkl itl help, then i say good luck to them

Hmmmm, to me it almost seems as if tightening controls on guns to a really high level, whilst allowing paintball for those that want it would be more productive. Giving people a generally safe, controlled outlet for aggression etc is probably safer in the long run than completely eliminating such outlets i would have thought???

Easier to just ban stuff than think i guess

Yeah, I think you\'re right. Assuming this is as a result of that school shooting recently, I seem to recall that the boy and his father were into \"real\" guns anyway, not paintball, so I don\'t see the link. Anyone who confuses a paintball gun and a \"real\" gun probably shouldn\'t be allowed either, honestly.

Guess there goes the autoban, as well as driving in Germany, cause that causes los of life, violent behavior, and is dangerous. Aslo are the following:

Feeding yourself with sharp objects such as forks, electricity, the internet, interacting with other people, drinking, smoking, money.....

\"Berlin also plans to ban games like paintball and laser-tag that simulate killing on the grounds that they trivialise and encourage violence.\"

So all computer and console game systems with FPS games are going to
have to go, too, by this logic.

Or any game with simulated violence in it.

\"Hey, let\'s play Risk!\"
\"Can\'t man, it simulates full scale war and trivializes the millions of lives lost in real
wars throughout history.\"

Table-top wargames will be out the window, too.

We\'ll have to take all the violent movies and tv shows off the air.

So, we\'ll be playing Candyland and watching Barney and The Brady Bunch.

Yep, that\'s one of the key points I think.

I was going to mention it above but this is exactly like moves to ban pornography. It\'s always for moral reasons at heart (regardless of the stated reasons) because it would be \"better for society\", for example leading to a drop in sexual crimes. Certain politicians still drag out that old dead horse to beat on it periodically, despite the definitive study during the Nixon administration that showed a negative correlation between exposure to sexually-explicit material and sexual criminality; and numerous follow-on studies have basically had the same findings.

It\'s what modern politicians (glorified social workers) are good at unfortunately.
Not just modern. Historically political types were just the same more often than not, it\'s in the nature of elected officials.

Hey folks

oh boy , i already asked myself if soemone here would post this. Thisis just one symptome of a hysterical witchhunt german video gamers , paintball and lasertag players had to witness throughout the last years

so let me use this thread to let off some steam and give you some insight :

first let me say that i completely agree with anything you guys said so far , especially Aidan K speaks my mind: Violence is a part of the human psyche and releasing some stress or frustration in a controlled setting in a - let´s say physical way, shall we? - always seemed healthy to me : boxing , paintball, martial arts, video games ,... ther are dozends of sports/hobbies that can be thought of as violent. Just take a look at a typical rugby, hockey, or football game. Sometimes a soccer game here in germany looks pretty much like war to me (btw: i hate soccer)

of cause all of these thing are seen as \"normal\" by the majority -and thsi is t really the poitn, because the majority is allo the politicaians care about

In the last decade videogames and paintball have become more and more popular and of cause like with anything new the media and most politicians of germany´s big conservative party had a new target to blame everytime kids showed violent behaviour. And of cause it´s conveninent...
:evil::cussing:

we had two school shootings during the last years , both terrible and both times people were asking why. The second one was this year and when details about the gunman were published it became pretty obvious that the guy had an unhealthy affecdtion for guns: His dad was a member of a gun club and took his son with him, he had 16 guns in his house, and in direct violations of the very strict laws about gun control here , his dad kept a revolver and the ammo not in a safe with the rest of his rifles but in a unlocked wardrobe in his sleeping room. Add the the fact that the gunman kept dozends of soft air rifles in his room and spent his free time either sooting with airrifles or at the gun club , you get some pieces of the picture. Of cause i doubt we will ever find out what finally send him over the edge , but when the police found a copy of counterstrike on his hard drive , german politicians had the answer: killergames !

Now you might ask yourself what a killergame is ? According to our all - knowing politicians it ´s a game that has the sole purpose of training gunmen and showing people how to kill little schoolgirls - no , not kidding according to politicians the player shoots schoolgirls in counterstrike. Of cause these are the same people who admit in interviews that they do not know how to use google....

I don´t wanna tell you all the lies and statements german politician tell or believe., just a few examples:

- gamer who play these games ar e just as bad as pedophiles and drug addicts

- the players rapes and tortures in battlefield 1942

- a gamer can practice shooting by playing counterstrike ( imagine trying to handle a heavy assault weapon like an AK47 after playing counterstrike - my best friend was in the army , this tought makes him laugh every single time )

and so on, you get the idea. To make matters whorse the media jumped on the train from the very beginning and lied and manipulated it´s older viewers in believing this crap.

In concludion: Instead of trying to understand what happened and maybe sending guidance councelors to school (which would cost money they have to give to the industry and the banks ) the german politicians have found a cheap, convienent way of calming their voters and make it look like their doing soemthing to prveent school shootings - just bann everything that looks violent.

Oh GAWD! what if they try & take over the world again? and inflict us all with these rules & regs? omg

Personally i think they are taking a very \'American\' attitude to the whole thing, ie: we dont really care but we must be seen to be doing something about it\'

To stretch a Bibilcal analogy, it\'s easier to point out the speck in your brother\'s eye than to see the beam in your own. In the case of many politicians, you could probably build an entire housing estate with the woodwork obscuring their view.

@In Chigh P.I.: Don´t worry most people here in germany are nice , decent people who are probably not so different from you :). And world domination - that´s something were not interested in anymorem, trust me.
In fact we have a \"fail save\" build in to our constitution:
If someone in germany is trying to remove democracy and errect something like a fourth reich, every citizen has the right do resist - even with violence

and , yes the whole attitude can best be described as : Let´s do something to make everyone feel safer and ask later if it was actually usefull or effective

EDIT: @ Amazon warrior: lol it would probably be enough for
this

Next stop; Ban the german army!

Lets face it, training a bunch of people you don\'t know to be proficient in the use of firearms of varying calibres and construction is just BEGING for trouble if you ask me!

@torn blue skies:

the politicians would NEVER ban the german army , we need them because we´re surounded by friends and allies

no they simply plan to ban everything i listed in my previous post, and of cause this weill turn germany into a peacefull utopia without any violence....

of cause an intelligent person like everyone who posted here might point out the same things you did. He might also point out the many studies that showed no correlation between violent behavior and video games or paintball.
If this person also knew the cr***y german school system, he would also add that the first school shooting maybe never whould have happend if the gunman hadn´t been kicked out of school without any diploma and therefore had no or little chance to ever get a job or make a carreer...

But of cause , improving the schoolsystem is pricey and the students who have to fight they way through it, aren´t allowed to vote.
Older people on the other hand who do not know anything about videogames or paintball are a huge voter potential and will hapilly vote anyone into office who seems to have the right answers - even when he´s a complete jerk who thinks that the best policy is to patronize people because they´re too stupid to know what´s good for them

EDIT @ Naukhel:

do you know how happy i am that the german polticians never heard of the tabletop hobby? Believe me the minute those [censored] see a warhammer 40k game we´re screwed.:|~

Oh come on, cool down a bit Farin.

I am from germany and the situation is not as \"black\" as you paint it here. ;)
Of course they are searching for something/someone to blame for the school violence / shooting, but your statements may suggest that the politicians want to BAN EVERYTHING. Thats bullshit!
Yes I know, after every school shooting the witchhunt begins again and again and the \"killerspiele\" (videogames) or other warsimulations like paintball are on the testbed.
BUT they don\'t plan to ban everything only because they can... I thing the discussions on tv or in the newspaper are very critical and not always AGAINST everything!

As for paintball, they canceled the ban, OK maybe just because the elections are coming. ;)

As for videogames I must say, here in germany the videogames are really very restricted, some games you can\'t buy if you are not over 18 and most of the games are \"censored\" (no blood textures etc.). Maybe the restrictions will get a bit harder, but they will NOT ban all videogames, believe me. ;)

And for the point to tighten the gun law: Even the Interior Minister said a tightening of the gun law will NOT prevent school shootings in the future! Germany has one of the hardest gun laws in the world and it\'s nearly impossible for a private individual to get a gun legally. But there will always be ways to get to a gun if you really want to. Regardless how hard the gun law would be...

And by the way: I am sick of this diskussion, the politicians should think about a reformation of the school system, not of the \"gaming system\". javascript:icon(\':flame:\')

Just my 2 cents...
