giant beetle

this was the perfect escape from my larger warband paint project that ive been focusing on.
i saw this on ebay

and snatched him up - ive got a soft spot for these oldies (1986).
i ripped the beetle out of the package and based him on Friday, then slapped some paint on the big guy Saturday with no plan in mind.
this is what i came up with in one day:

i kinda like it for such a fast PJ and, more importantly, i had lots of fun doing it.
should be fun on the table too.
so, what do you think of my very first one-day paint job? what could i do to improve it, given such a limited time frame?

That's very cool...You've captured that irridescant beetle look quite nicely. And it makes it more satisfying when you can paint it up so quickly!

There is one pic that just has a red x on it, not sure what that's supposed to be.

thanks guys, im glad i got the feel right. its no "show stopper", but i do enjoy the effect. in an odd way the tight deadline i gave myself was liberating. in order to achieve it i had to toss my usual toolbox of blending techniques that take hours, abandon my endless planning, get over my nitpickyness, and just go with it. there are some parts that burn the eyes a little after looking at them in the light of day, but i need to learn to get over it, and just paint. in the long run i think exercises like this will help me improve not only the speed, but quality of my paintwork by giving me more techniques and ideas to play with, as well as the efficiency to execute them in a reasonable way.

If you get a chance, would you post a pic of that next to a 'recognizable' figure? Just curious to see how big it is.

I think it's worked really nicely Funnymouth. For some reason it looks like a catalogue shot to me, which I suppose is no bad thing

two big complements! thanks fellas. ill take "catalog shot" any day BPI! im glad you appreciate the colors, skeletteS - i consider your use of color to be superb, so im glad i appealed to your aesthetic.
freakinacage is correct, its mounted on a cav base. here's phone camera shot with a human for scale.
