Should we try ..well if we can offer a genuine reason why the work isn\'t as good as they think or offer ways for improvement then I think absolutely do it... It can be difficult because more often than not the person offerin a different opinion is perceived as being cocky arrogant or out to cause trouble.

It\'s like all the reality music shows where you get people who are indeed shite but have been told by all around them they are the best thing since sliced bread.. Then in steps a judge who says sorry but your crap..The judge is called all kinds of bastard but they really are trying to do this person the best service..

same with minis I see so many times people jumping on the this is great ..enter it in GD your bound to win train.. when often it is not the case and without actually experiencing the event and appreciating what makes a winner up close and personal a person can be filled with over inflated opinions of their work and it\'s chances of winning falling back on the judges decisions were poor excuse post event. More often than not false praise although often the easiest way out ..(most people dn\'t like to offend peple) does more harm than good in the long run.


anyone who puts there work up for public crit and opinion should have the shoulders to bear the rough with the smooth.

On Gifts And God . . .

I haven\'t posted seriously, or with any length, in a good long time. Tonight, I sat
myself down, and read through this entire thread, and got to thinking about it.

Those of you who know me know that I\'m not a particularly religious guy. I believe
in . . . that nebulous \'higher power\', but I\'m not a church-goer, nor do I pray with
anything resembling frequency.

So, I find myself asking myself... Why is this thread sticking in my head and making
me do all this painful thinking? And I still don\'t have an answer to that particular
question, but I do have thoughts on Reverend\'s question. Possibly even in the
manner he was hoping for, initially.

First of all, there\'s the question of the choice of words. \"Gift from God.\" The gift
part, at first glance, is obvious. Only it really isn\'t. \"Gift\" is a word with multiple
meanings (let\'s all take a minute to curse the English language, shall we?). I\'m not
going to bother with the copying and pasting from a dictionary. We all mostly
know these definitions.

A present given.
A natural ability/talent/skill.

Clearly, the expression \"Gift from God\" is most commonly used when referencing
the latter of these two incomplete definitions. And this makes sense to me ...
to a point. That point being... at what point do we draw the line between the
\'average\' of the Everyman, and when said
ability/skill/talent becomes a \'gift\'?

We almost all have the ability to walk. It\'s quite natural. Is this a gift, or do we have
to do a 40K walk-a-thon and place in the top 10 for it to be one? And from that
query, I ask, \'how broad is the definition of the Everyman?\'. Is this limited to our
own region and realm of experience, or in this fantastic information age, with the
internet letting the world see our work (if we\'re so inclined to share it), is this \'gift\'
to be held up against the standard of the world?

Jester said he can pick up \'most any medium and be better than average\'. But
there it is, right there. What\'s \'average\' to Jester? The ability to pick up new skills
very quickly, regardless of what \'average\' is... is a Gift. Not everyone can do it.
In fact, a great many can\'t. There are countless people out there that struggle
with picking up some of the skills that most of us, here, take completely for
granted.

Whether we call it a \'Gift from God\' or just a \'Gift\' is fairly irrelevant. If you have Faith
then, certainly, say it\'s from God. Where a Gift comes from, whether genetics, or a
deity, or from years of painstaking practice
hardly matters, in the end.

It\'s yours.

Don\'t waste it.
