nice work mike :)

the contrast within the shading could be stronger to realy make it pop.

the mouths! could do with some saliva/drool and possibly blood, yeh blood.
clear resin and tamiya clear red are fan favourites for gor effects. :D

the grass needs washes of green and brown to give it a bit more realism and stopping it looking like static and wild grass.

before doing your last dry brush for the soil try using some washes in patches of the colours used on the model.
once the last dry brush is then done it will bring back the look of the ground your after but with added harmony and other clever arty style ways of saying, it will look better.

pigment powders are great as well for gently dusting areas of earth to help give more of a soil effect, as well as adding a bit of grime to feet, boots and clothes.

oh, and your photography is fine mike, it\'s the white/grey backdrop that isn\'t helping.

hope that helps mate :)

Wow... I just started to paint a Dire Troll the EXACT same colors. Good to see the scheme works. Those eyes are terrific. Care to tell me what colors you used?

Overall it is quite impressive. Great job!

@generalpoleaxe ill have a fiddle with the base and see what i can improve. Who would of thought someone like me could be to subtle lol what would be the best background to use for photography, im just using a big sheet of cartridge paper at the moment, i think i could do with some brighter lights aswel.

@jake the eyes are just done using layering and GW paints. Iyanden darksun, golden yellow, golden yellow + white. put the black pupil in. then \'ardcoat and yellow ink over the top to make it shiny.

more big stuff to follow as im in the midst of painting a foreworld warhound chaos titan :D

edit:mad:jake oops did you mean the eyes or the whole thing?

the idea is to get the background contrasting in a nice way to the mini so that the mini stands out.

try a blue, but with a slight grey tone to it.
it will give you contrast yet be subdued enough not to draw peoples attention.
(you could even bring out a contrasting colour from the model into the blue as well if doing it in photoshop to print out)
