Glaze Medium

I just got my shipment of Vallejo Game Colors, the full set plus inks, and there is a bottle called \'Glaze Medium\' and I have an idea of what it is used for but i\'m not sure.

I\'m guessing you add color to it and use it as a Glaze ( its currently a milky looking substance ) Any info on this would be greatly appreciated and an idea of applications for it.

Thanks

Ok, now I\'m mad ...

I started painting a mini and I got out Dark Green ( GW Dark Angels Green ) for a basecoat on my black orcs and it feels like half the paint is in solid form. I put some out on a pallet and it flooded out and it had \'hunks\' in it, this was after shaking it for 3 min because of the chunky sound.

I do not know about the Vallejo glaze, but I\'m using Liquitex and I am happy with it. What you do is mix your paint, your medium and your water/magic mix to get a very transparent mix to use in glazing.
It is not intended to use for basecoat (a basecoat should be solid, not transparent) nor should it be used undiluted.

Bobbo, put a BB or a spare mini bit in each bottle to help stir.

Vellajos have to be shaken forever to get the pigment mixed. Then reduce the heck out of them to paint with. Think of them as concentrated paint - add reducer (like 4 parts reducer to one of paint)

The glaze medium is their version of magic wash - flow aid, retarder, etc.

Since the article is, in fact, a demonstration of the use of VMC Glaze Medium specifically, I\'d say the article itself proves that it works.

Thats a really nice article about glazes. I have a question, if I put a BB in each of my vallejo paints can the BB clog the paint hole ?

Ok, so i\'m getting the 3 paints that have dried hunks in replaced but following airhead\'s advice I put a BB in each of the other paints because it makes sense. I don\'t think a BB will rust in a closed container even with a liquid inside, however this does worry me now. Anyone have experience with BBs rusting in paint and changing the paint color or adding metallic flakes to the paint ? If so I can just use a magnet to pull the BBs out ( I have rare earth magnets that I ordered online, a magnet the size of a quarter that will lift 25 pounds )

I use stainless steel bolts (or nuts, I never know which is which, even in French, please let me know which is the male and which the female, thanks) as agitators. Stainless will not rust or flake and I have had them in my paints for over a year now without any undesirable effect.

Granddad!
I did have a bit of a problem with rust in the beginning so I removed them, and now I use bits of old minis, tabs etc. not had any problems since
so, yes, take them out Bobbo

Reaper paints come with a skull in each bottle. (non-lead metal)

I\'ve added lead bb\'s, bits off of minis, etc. to other brands.

Even stainless nuts & bolts will rust eventually. The cheaper ones sold at home centers are generally the worst. Marine grade is the best, but expensive. (Nuts have a hole in the middle, bolts are long) ;)

I put COPPER bb\'s in all my GW paints years ago....

Now they are rusted solid to the bottoms...

I say use small glass beads...

The nozzle pops off the bottle. I discovered this when I poured half a bottle of paint onto my palette, not realizing that the nozzle had stuck in the cap.
