glue the base first or not?

Hi I was new to miniature painting. I read in several place that people usually glue the mini to the base, and assemble all parts together first before priming. Is this the usaul way of doing this? Would it make some area harder to access when painting (like around the feet, the joint)?

Thanks for your help.

I tend to glue the mini to the base first and assemble as much as possibe.

I also am in the habit of gluing a pin into the foot of the model and mounting it on a cork to hold as I paint. Other people hotglue the base and model to something to hold. There are many options to pick from.

I cut up some 12 mm wood dowels, fixed to a 40 mm square base with a slot cut halfway down the dowel. I then pin both feet of the mini and wrap the wire between and around this.

Then when finished painting I just unwind the wire and cut to fit the base.

Try out what works for you.
There are many ways to complete your figures. Experiment and find what is comfortable. And don\'t get too rigid, it may change as your experience in painting changes and grows.
When I started I left the weapons off, I sometimes still do. BUT I used to hold the base while painting, now I almost always remove the base tabs and mount them on pins and use a foam wine cork to hol them before pinning them to a more scenic base. (at least on my own minis)
Trust me, hang around here, even if you aren\'t posting, and you\'ll improve(especially if you try new stuff) and eventually YOU\'LL be dispensing advice and opinion in equal measure!

I like to attach the model to cork with some wire through a hole in the bottom of the model. you dont have any problems with getting to all areas of the model when its liken this as you can access it from all angles.

Subassemblies for me.

And as much as possible I paint parts separately, if there\'s any chance there might not be easy access to an area with the brush.

It\'s not just that you can\'t get a brush to anything you can see, you also have to be able to move it whichever way you need to as well.

I tend to put the mini together as much as possible before painting, mostly because I pin virtually everything and don\'t want to worry about touching up painted parts. However I don\'t generally glue the mini to the base first. I find when I do I screw up the feet. Just a quirk of mine. I like to do the base seperatly as well. Then I pin and glue it together at the end.

i used to paint the mini first, holding onto the tab with something and when i\'m finished cut off the tab and stick it to a base... but i\'ve found that it is really easy to scratch your mini or leave \"glue marks\" on the paint doing this. so i usually assemble, cut off tag, make base, stick to base, and then glue the base to the top of a small container (that it can be easily removed from) it does make it harder to see those \"underneath areas\" that u miss sometimes... but who sees them anyways lol...

Thanks all.
For now, I will do the painting first on the separate parts, before glueing it to the base. I will see how it comes out in the end. may try other suggestion for my next project :)

Tried the blue tac but they simply couldn\'t hold the mini tight. Finally went out and bought this card gripper, the perfect solution :)
