Going against the "rules"

Hey all

Im going to make a last minute entry for the UK golden demon this month for the first time and am wondering about my choice of mini (nothing too serious, just want to take part and try to make it through the first cut) .
I fancy taking a space marine librarian but I would prefer not to paint it the "usual blue".

Now I don't know how much against the background and fluff this would be but I wondered if I would be marked down for painting a different scheme to "what it should be"!?

Not all librarians are blue. Really, you could do it in any colour you wanted. That said, if you're seriously thinking of entering a mini for GD, it would be worth your while to do some research into the background of the game. GD is a marketing opportunity for GW, and they're going to want to display minis that represent their product best, and that means sticking with the fluff. There are a lot of resources on the web about 40k background, so a quick google should help out. Librarium online and the 40k wiki should be a good start. Be careful not to choose a model that has specific Chapter iconography - those colors are pre-set (eg if he has a big upside-down omega on his shoulder then he's an ultramarine and should be blue. If he's covered in angel wings and blood drops he's a blood angel and should be red (and blue) and if he's covered in wolf tails and fangs then he's a space wolf and should be grey. It's a bit of a minefield if you don't know your fluff.) The safest option is to make sure you buy a non-chapter specific model. If you do that, any color is fine. (I'd avoid pastel pink, though. :p)

You could also make him a Librarian in service to the Deathwatch. Then the armor is black, with a grey or metallic left arm and shoulder pad with Deathwatch Iconography, and his right shoulder pad in the colors and iconography of his chapter. I haven't seen too many Deathwatch done. Might be something to consider.

Hey guys

It is the new standard marine mini, so no specific chapter icons.
I really fancied panting it red as this is a colour I enjoy painting and it usually turns out ok but didn't want to get a "you don't get red librarians" when the judges saw it!

Its always risky doing a none conformist mini - it can pay off and be innovating :victory: or flop big time :(

Looking at the termy in your gallery its looks very tidy and well painted, just get the edge highlights more standout & crisp.
