Well that's just peachy.
My dad's in hospital after having fallen down an escalator in the Metro Centre.
From the description we've got, sounds like nothing's broken but he's bruised his head and chest up and possibly done something to his Sternum.
Going to blast up to Newcastle tomorrow for a few days, so ain't going to be around.
You all take care and if you've got elderly parents, check on them.

Also means might be delays in checking images etc..

Y'all behave nice now, Y'hear!

Thanks all.
Wasn't doing too good last night as I got "Wound Up" by the person providing me with the information.
While they meant well I don't need an essay on what happened, just his condition.

He's 83 and while not a frail old man, he's not the tough active old cop he was.

I hope your dad recovers as soon as possible, Mike! Falling in an escalator can be really nasty.

That can be more frustrating as they have what you want to know but tell everything but that.
Hope your dad gets back on his feet quickly and remind him to treat escalator's like horses * They're dangerous at both ends and crafty in the middle *

Short acces to internet.

Update ...he's got really bad cuts on fore head, they are going to scar regardless, a black eye, cheekis swollen an bruised. Gashes on both forearms and bruised ribs.
He's been increadibly lucky not to break anything considering the height he went down.
He's had a CT scan nothing bad showing.

Just waiting for the medication and paper work then we can get him home and more comfortable.
Next hurdle his local Doctor.........and home visit.....Yeah Right.

Well that's still pretty crappy at 83. The bruised ribs especially (been there more than a few times). Those take forever to heal and sleeping in anything but a relicing chair is brutal :( Looks like lots of R&R and hopefully a fist full of pain meds to help with the ribs!

A brief update, after a really bad night, he managed to get some sleep yesterday and it made a huge difference.
While he's not fit he looked a whole lot better.
Got him up and downstairs and sitting in a reclining chair for a few hours.
Todays plan is to get him walking around, no matter how slow, for a few turns around the street.
(Found a folding camping chair in his garage so that'll help. Don't care if it upsets people or gets in their road.)

He knows he was lucky, very lucky, as an off-duty A&E Doctor came to his aid on Monday at the time.
I need to find her and say thanks somehow.

Good to hear it's not as bad as it could have been! I hope he will be able to enjoy Christmas without too much pain and discomfort.

Busted ribs are nothing to sneeze at. (really, don't sneeze with a bum rib).
Keep an eye on him. Glad he getting better.
Movement is good.

Well after typing that update this morning, he's had a much better night.
Really slept well and was far brighter than yesterday.
Managed to get him down to the bottom of the street and get a shampoo & haircut.
Made him feel much better.
Quick shopping trip and a relaxing afternoon.

Ribs aren't broken but the soft connective tissue connecting to the sternum have been overstretched hence the difficulty.

Bruising looks awful though.

A hot water bottle with help clear up some of the bruising faster by increasing circulation to the area and loosen things up now that its been more than 24 hours. Glad to hear he is on the mend :) I feel lucky. All I had to do with my dad today was help him buy and learn to use a new cell phone -_- I need a nap :p
