Golden Daemon Fraud

this is what i think.
the kid wants a kicking for doing it. the parents want a kicking for letting him cos they musta known. if you sell your minis then wave goodbye to any thought of them staying intact. im sure most people are genuine collectors etc but theres always some that arent. i think that when u sell a mini then the buyer will have a legal right to do anything with it apart from pass it off as his own artwork.
oh and give gw a kicking for being stuck up bigger than god bastards.:flame: GW

I agree with this, why the heck didn\'t they make an example of this kid, and especially mention it in White Dwarf. Not doing such a thing just encourages more people to try it because they might think they can get away with it. If they had put a note in WD, it sure would give the person thinking about doing something like that pause if he realizes someone else got caught at it...

but any lawyer worth his salt would try and say that the re-basing itself would give enough cause to consider the finished piece as a different original work, that may or may not be expanding upon the original piece by Pitynoman.
Correct me if I\'m wrong, but I think that legally, when you buy some mass-produced food product and add anything to it (like a pinch of salt or something equally ridiculous), it is considered \"homemade\". Which I find rather strange, but it does make things easier when you think about it, as opposed to lenghty discussions on where \"homemade\" starts.

don\\\'t go in the rain without yer wellies on!

Somebody may have posted on this already, I didn\\\'t read all of them. A thought - Before you sell your mini, take a photograph. Send said photo to yourself via registered mail. Do not open the envelope This means that it is dated and stamped by the postal service. Should any event occur in which you need to prove you painted the mini, let the judge (Legal or Golden Daemon) unseal it.:flame::bouncy:

Simple is efficient....

This is a really good way of attempting to protect your IP. It\'s not foolproof, but it is cheap and it must carry some weight.

Musicians have done this for years in the (possibly misguided) hope that it may protect their lyrics/music etc.

It has got to be better than just going to court with your mum/sister/wife testifying that you did it first:D

I never liked the NMM on that model anyway. It looks incredibly muddy and dull.

Mold line or not, it wasn\'t the best entry of the year. The pedestal is pretty much flawless though

First Jason Richards and now Jen Haley... any other incredibly talented artists you want to insult for no reason whatsoever? We\'re still waiting for that Wolf Priest on Portent, by the way... you know the one you were gonna do to one-up JR? :|~

What\'s wrong with the Portland Jailblazers?

I watch sport with my son, played both high school and college sports also, but I have taught my son that you can admire and enjoy someone\'s talent but that should be seperate from your admiration of the person unless that person earns your complete respect with his or her actions on and off the field of play. Lance Armstrong is one that comes to mind that exhibits class wherever he is while Kobe, A.I., Dennis Rodman, Randy Moss, John Rocker, Wade Boggs, The Portland Trailblazers, etc ( list WAY too long to continue) are the all too common rule that have talent on the court but off the field are an utter joke as a person.

Of course that is just my opinion, I could be wrong....

I tend to agree. I have varied and strong opinions on the whole \"should sports stars be rolemodels\", but I won\'t go into that now.

Sorry, I\'m FROM Portland, so you can imagine how WE feel!:(
And I don\'t even WATCH sports!

Sad truth is, no matter how well you try to raise your kids, their bound to do something stupid. Maybe including dishonest. It\'s all a part of growing up.

Although he SHOULD know better by age 14, and his parents should\'ve been enough a part of his life to realize whether he painted that himself or not.

No parent is perfect. But being involved takes care of alot of things....

Wow! I have to check these more regularly...

i guess by your last post jim, you are without sin?? let ye who cast the first stone......
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Look, the whole reason I say these things is because I have three kids. Am I without sin? Nope. Should I look that way to my kids? Yep. When my kids ask me if I burn illegal copies of computer games (cds, DVD, burn MP3s, use Napster etc) I will tell them the truth \"Daddy used to do that years ago until he realized it was stealing. I hope that you learn from my experience rather than having to learn that yourself.\"

The whole point (braveheart, snowdog and finn) is not that children are held unaccountable for their actions, just that overall parents need to be extra good, extra kind , extra honest etc etc. Children of smokers are more likely to smoke. Children of drinkers are more likely to drink. Children of bullys etc...

This kid is old enough to know better and to be held accountable for it. My point wasn\'t that he shouldn\'t be. My point was that cheating, theft and other \"minor\" crimes are considered acceptible by so many people these days that I am surprised it does not happen more often.

The fact that so many people take part in my list of \"minor\" sins just means that many of us may need to take a closer look at ourselves before we spend too much time casting those same stones.

Finally, Snowdog (my favourite RUSH album, BTW, is hemispheres) Ben Johnson is the perfect example of how an Olympic athelete caught cheating should be treated. He is a national disgrace in our country. He was villified and has been banned for life. In certain other countries athletes caught on performance enhancing drugs are sheilded by their countries even to the point where their own countrys organizing commitees hide the actual tests- obviously winning by cheating is more important that losing honestly. This is exactly the point I am making.

I would assume he did, Dennis :) Again I\'m not trying to start a big fuss but he\'s thrown around some really weighty comments lately on other forums and I\'m still pretty fired up about them.

Accusing SJB of winning his recent \'Demons on account of his relationship with Fanatic and not simply because his minis were extremely well crafted really got under my skin, and there have been several instances since then where similar statements have been made.

Everyone is of course free to express their opinions but there are many which go well beyond the bounds of good taste. Right now I\'ve decided to stick up for these guys and gals who have spent countless hours to earn their spots atop the mini painting community from baseless claims like those.

I\'m sure their work speaks volumes more than my efforts will, but for whatever reason I feel compelled to at least try.

Oh, SJB\'s minis were superbly crafted. That Inquisitor figure really is a lovely sculpt. However it was just suspicious how every year someone who has access to miniatures which aren\'t released for several months walks off with an award for an average paint job.

Regardless of whether it was him who sculpted the figure or not, it is a general release miniature. If Jes Goodwin painted up any one of the number of awe inspiring models which he has made over the past 15 years for GW, I wouldn\'t like him to be judged on the quality of the sculpt unless it was a one off green.

Just because I do not give nothing but sychophantic praise to all and sundry, doesn\'t mean I\'m \"hating\". I\'m just giving an honest opinion. I don\'t see why you make it your life\'s work to decry it.

Well, IMHO, Steves minis were amazingly well painted. If the judges had taken the sculpt into account, he could have gotten gold (again IMHO).

If you are saying that those paintjobs are average, I would really appreciate an example of a good paintjob.

Don\'t forget that matt Parkes won the sword last year with an unconverted model that has been out for ages. Jakob nielsen\'s sword winning entry for this year consisted of models that have been available for months. It does not impress judges that the model is \'new\', because they would have seen it six months before the release date of the model, and it\'s old to them...

I shall not comment on Jakob Nielsen or Matt Parke\'s Slayer Sword wins as I don\'t want to see a flame war started by people who want to defend them at all costs. I will say however that Matt Parke\'s entry in the Warhammer Large Monster category this year was the most impressive thing I have ever seen and deserved to walk away with the prize.

I have very clearly defined opinions when it comes to what works and what doesn\'t. ANd while my opinion is no more valuable than the next enthusiasts, it does not mean I am not allowed to express it, as I have never made defamatory or insulting remarks about a single painter. While I am not a fan of many of the so called \"great\" painters on the circuit, I will happily give credit where it is due when I see something which catches my eye, case in point being Matt\'s Slaanesh Lord or Jen Haley\'s recent Reaper commissions

And while I prefer Rackham\'s hyper-detailed and distressed styles and colour palletes over the slightly muddy GW style, there will always be examples of each which I will have a differeing opinion on. I must say I am quite partial to the metallic finish on the \"War Machine Butcher Guy\" which Mis Haye painted on this very site even though I don\'t usually like traditional metallics.

Thanks! I was just making a point that\'s all. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I was just trying to deflate the idea a lot of people have over the fact that \'new\' models always win. This years Demons was the closest call ever made by judges. It was Matt Parkes, Joe Hill and Jakob Nielsen going for the Sword, and in the end there were more votes for Jakob\'s entry. There are five judges, who debate and fight over who wins the trophies and the sword, and in the end they said \'Let\'s just each pick one and compare results, because otherwise we\'ll still be here next week\'. Jakob came out on top. One thing I always find interesting is that if you break it down in the end, it is just the opinion of individuals who like or dislike pieces for different reasons, a bit like CMON! I personally thought some of the winning entries weren\'t as good as others that didn\'t even place (Jasper Kuiper\'s scratchbuilt Inquisitor piece, hhmmmmmm lovely) Anyway, just my two cents...:D

Well, Logan, if your posts on Portent were that well thought out and articulated then I probably wouldn\'t have brought anything up!

I never intended to say you\'re wrong for having those opinions or anything like that, it\'s just that on Portent it sounded like you were dismissing these artists\' skills and that didn\'t sit well with me. As a matter of fact, there are plenty of figs up here on CMoN where I can marvel at the technical skill and still dislike the overall appearance of the figure (Goatman\'s elf princess comes to mind, I never liked the face at all and yet the rest of the model was gorgeous so it is getting 9.6 or something).

Technical skill, style, creativity, and countless other factors (including personal bias) can some influence your opinions of a model easily and I was just saying that the vast majority of GD winners deserve their hardware and any time it\'s suggested things are rigged then I do my impression of Bruce Banner getting a parking ticket.
