David Soper! Legend!

That latest piece on your blog is jaw-dropping...

Legend, yes that's me ... most probably the result of someone's sick & twisted imagination :giggle:

Seeing the link to all those lovely old minis is quite a timely memory jog for me. I've made a deliberate effort to go a bit old school in just how bright & colourfull I'm choosing to paint Gutrot Spume. That or, as a product of the late 80's early 90's 'Eavy Metal style, I'm reverting to type.

Dave remind me to get your autograph when I see you at the end of the month. Might sell it on eBay :)

Reading an unrelated post on Whineseer. someone at the FW open day was speaking to the design team about upcoming releases of stuff on display and a lot were "scheduled to be released at Warhammer Fest"

So that is the first confimration that there will be one at least, we can but hope the full Demon event will be held alongside it.

I wish GW would pull the finger out and tell folk though, as folk need to book travel!....(i.e. me)

Good news :good:
After a somewhat 'illusive' discussion with the powers that be at GW I can confirm there WILL be a Major/proper golden demon, most probably at the richo, coventry but dates are sketchy - end of this year / early 2016?

Old news mates, at least for people with facebook ;)

How do you mean? Not heard anything official or all that unofficial yet, with regards to venue and dates?

Though if its at the Ricoh Arena again, that will be good as i can fly again and see all you lovely people for shandys the night before :)

Imagine 50 shades of grey, but with Michael Bay directing. And the Stephen King version of the shining. All in one.

HAVE FUN WITH THE NIGHTMARES

If it's in the same place as last time I'm very tempted at going. A definite step-up from 2008 when I was there last time and given the reports from NIA a giant leap from that one before. Hopefully I'll have time to paint something as well.

so after the 'successful' (in pics I saw about 20 entries and even less people) GD-tanks, here comes the next one in october: GD-Space Marines....
more space marines...

Space Marines will probably/hopefully make more entries than tanks especially as it is attached to wh open days. Have to say though a competition with only space marines sounds pretty much like my personal hell.

if find it hard to believe these small gds will continue if this one also fails.

[Cynical mode On] GW Spin Doctors will always make ANYTHING seem like a Magical Win.[/Cynical mode off]

MY belief is that GW are only playing "Lip Service" to their "Committment" to the painting side of the hobby as they are targeting more and more to younger players rather than Veterans and long term players.
Having said that if I'm proved wrong by a massive up swerve in Painting competition support I'd be more than happy to say 'I'm Wrong' in large rainbow colours.

not sure if the tank failed, but the few galleries I saw didn't show a lot of entries and even less people (could be that the photos showing the attendees were taken too early or too late, no idea about that)
+ who knows, maybe they didn't want more anyway and the cca. 20 entries are more then enough for GW.

Well I was there and I can assure you there wasn't many happy faces on the gw staff.
Most depressive was Youngblood with one entry I felt really bad for the kid...

really? the GW staff actually showed disappointment due to lack of entries? figured they should just be enthusiastic and deal with it.

There are still many painting competitions around.

- Formula P3 @ gencon each year
- Euromilitaire has one i think
- salute
- reapercon

there's another big europe one that i can't think of right now. I think, other than the cash prize @ Formula P3, none of them have trophies as interesting as the slayer sword, but oh well.

Oh, and the best of them all (including GW i think), the model painting olympics is every 3 years (World Model Expo). Next one is 2017 in Chicago!

Being in Toronto, will try to actually go to that one...

it is sad for GD though. Are games days gone too?

Regards,

Sanjay
