Hey all,

Pics of my games day entries are up now. Please vote and leave comments on them. I\'d really like to get some feedback! The links are below:

Hy\'Li\'Spy\'Qui:

This is the Lizardman Temple Guard that made it through first cut. There is a longer description of him accompanying the piccies. I\'m hoping that he\'s going to be scoring a lot better than he is at the moment. I left the default score of 6 this time rather than voting myself. I know the pics don\'t do it justice but its the most detail I can get with the size restriction. There is a lot of work on this model and anyone who was at Games Day will hopefully have seen the real thing.

and another shot:

The next one is my skink Shaman, Bitza\'Spy\'Qui, who I also entered - unfortunately he didn\'t make it to first cut but he did win me a local store competition. Again, he\'s started off with the default score of 6 and I\'m hoping he will fare much better than that. The base is covered in sculpted flowers and vines etc. and the skull is is also very eyecatching in real life. Once again, this is the best I can do with my camera and it looks a bit more yellow than it should.

The final pic is of my Games Day wolf Priest Sternhammer:

Again, I\'ve left the default score of 6 so hoping he\'ll be going up a bit too.

Hope you like them!:D

Regards

Kat.

Hi Kat,

Very colorfull! It must be the picture I guess but the skin on the green lizzard guy (what a name :)) looks splodgy (is that a word?) like in not so neat. The others look great but I would love to see some more detail (in the pictures) on them.

Well, they all look quite nice, but I think you need to work on making your painting cleaner. The blends need to be smoother and you need more contrast. Some dark or blacklining might help.

Also some areas appear to be completely unhighlighted/unshaded; The horns on the forgeworld piece, the javelins on the shaman, the reds on the space wolf.

As Dean mentioned, some of the shading looks splodgy, especially on the skink shaman and on the gold NMM on the wolf priest. The difference between the small contests GW has in their stores and the GD is huge!

It\'s very cool that you\'re trying out some freehand, but the wolf on the banner just isn\'t symmetrical. I\'m sure that with a little more practise it can looks great.

Hope this helps and good luck at the next GD :)

I normally avoid blacklinging where possible because I don\'t like the models to look cartoony, but on the forgeworld piece he has got quite a lot of blacklining. Also, the yellow scales are not so yellow in real life, they are much paler and have been nicely blended and highlighted, I don\'t think that shows well in the photo. So there is a bit more contrast than the photo shows. All of the red scales are really well highlighted ( I feel), but I admit that there are some places on the blue where the highlights look a bit rougher.

Also some areas appear to be completely unhighlighted/unshaded; The horns on the forgeworld piece, the javelins on the shaman, the reds on the space wolf.

The horns were left natural on the forgeowrld model as they are fossilised shark teeth and they have a lovely subtle colour and patternation to them, which although the photos don\'t show this up, look really great in real life

I guess it does from that maginification, the skink is after all very tiny and the magnification of the photo is showing up flaws that you wouldn\'t see on the actual model. Again, the photo has cast the model in a slightly yellower light- the skull is in fact a lovely shade of greys and whites and really draws the eye, as does the base. The NMM gold is definitely something I\'m trying to work on atm, and this wasn\'t one of my best attempts. Ho hum, I\'ll keep trying though.

It\'s very cool that you\'re trying out some freehand, but the wolf on the banner just isn\'t symmetrical. I\'m sure that with a little more practise it can looks great.

yeah, not too keen on the banner myself! I\'ll keep trying my freehand for next year!

Hope this helps and good luck at the next GD :)

Thanks,

I have a Forgeworld Dragon to do for next year!

Nice work!

Kat-
Overall your work is very solid and attractive. Just a few comments from a lesser painter than you, I hope they help...
1) I love your temple guard, I really think your greenstuff sculpting is wonderful. I guess what didn\'t work for me was the palette of colors you chose though. While I like bright colors, I felt it was too bright and too busy, that maybe if you used some more earthtones on the base, etc, it would provide better contrast for the bright colors used on the lizard itself.
2) I like freehand artwork, but the banner on your inquisitor does not measure up to the fine detailing that you did on the piece , so in my humble opinion, this banner is somewhat of a distraction and would be better without it.
3) I also agree with earlier comments on the skink that is could use some spots or something to break up the green skintone.
I hope these comments help, again you do wonderful work and your painting leaves me in awe everytime I see it!!!
