Golden Demon Entry Please critique

Hmm, I\'m not sure I like it...

A few things;

Even though the black is black, it\'s still metal and will have reflective capabilities. Hence the highlights should be stronger on the barding, it just looks like the barding was never painted to me...

That combined with a black horse, where the highlights are very weak, for instance look at this:

Black%20horse%20white.jpg

Their skin is almost silky like, making them shine. Also giving them some kind of contrasty mane (not that visible) and tail is good.

Hoofs are black as well, but at least they got some gloss, but again, I would either choose a bone colour or highlight them more.

Base: Add some more stuff, grass between the damaged road or courtyard or what it is, hard to see, just looks like... well.. rubble...

Your whites and reds look awesome though! The dusty white look is great and you could use that more places on the minis.

Great job! I know such a project isn\'t easy... but atm I would rate it at 7-7.5...

It\'s good and would make an awesome unit in an army, but it just doesn\'t stand out. Everything blends together and the banner is a very big missed opportunity. It really lets the entry down.

And the figures are dull as ditchwater, but that aint your fault.;)

I would agree with what was said previously. The banner is nice and the metallics look well done, but the black horse and black barding blend in too much. Needs some differentiation to make them stand out.

I think the major problem i ran into with this project, is a problem i have with alot of my convetions. They have to be explained. What i tring to say is i think im starting to learn that truly great miniatures convey a more obvious apreciation. Im probobly not making any sense, so ill just answer the question:) Are you familiar with the five (28mm) Chaos Knights in the current range and Have you ever seen the 2003 UK Staff 54mm Chaos Knight? Well the later is not that pretty but made a great base to convert and sculpt off. Last year for Games Day, I built and painted a squad of Imperial Guard and a Chimera in 54mm scale and painted it to match the Studio color scheme. This year i attempted to do the same with a unit of five Chaos Knights. These photos are hard to see obviously, but i hope that makes sence.

So they\'re convo\'s of the staff model.

Knowing that they\'re 54mm makes me even more critical of the paint work I\'m afraid, but the conversion work is extremely well done.

What everyone else said about the paint and conversion. Also the base is very flat. needs more contrast. Some dead grass and broken weapons etc should break it up a bit.

Good luck.

9 for the conversion but 5-6 for the painting, being 54 mm means a lot of wasted painting opportunities (armour and standards!) for 7.5 as average :)
