Some of you might have wondered whether Polish GD will actually take place. The answer is it will . But it will be a bit unusual indeed. First of all it won`t be a part of GamesDay. It`ll be one of the events during Polcon, one of the biggest gaming and sf/fantasy cons in Poland. Those of you wondering what can be seen during it should visit www.polcon.com/2007 , but as an example I`ll mention meeting with Chris Achilleos.
The GoldenDemon itself will happen on the last day of Polcon - Sunday, 2nd of September. The one day ticket will be availible for 25zl ( around 6,5 EUR), or if you wish to participate in events before Sunday (the con starts on Friday) you could purchase an all days pass for 50 zl (around 13 EUR).
The categories and the rules are based on GD UK ones so nothing new here - I`m sure you`re familiar with them. The judges will include experienced Polish painters (me included ) and UK guests as well. One interesting fact about Slayer Sword - it will be quite unique compare to other ones, as it will be an actual sword that you could fight with (made by one of the better known craftsman out here) not just a showcase piece.But shhhh.... I might be telling you too much secrets .
Those looking for a place to sleep have several options. First of all you could stay in dormitory - make sure to take sleeping bag with you. That`s the cheapest option - not much comfort, but hey, it`s only 1,5 EUR for night. The other good thing it`s in Polcon area. You could also stay in students hostel for around 6 EUR (shared toilets and showers) - but you`ll have to take a bus that will take to the Polcon. The last option is hotel in Polcon area. The rooms are ~63 EUR for single room and ~70EUR for double room. Remember to reserve your rooms as early as possible as the offical, more reasonably priced ones are limited in terms of numbers.
Good news for those that will take plane to get to the event - the airport is short walk from Polcon.
It would be great if yo came earlier - on Saturday for example. The polish painters community plans a meeting, so we could have a chat and a couple of drinks. I`ll give you some info about it when we`ll have details sorted out.
