Just looked at the stuff of legends coverage and the pics aren\'t bad....

Regarding ring flashes, has anyone got one? If so, are they any good?

hm. not sure what you mean. :) If I understood it correctly you mean from their POV that no one will buy the GD booklet if the web images are too good? The GD booklet is for free and contains the same pictures except for those showing up at the tour... which many can\'t afford/ have time. So basically terrific pictures of the Open entries and not so good on many others. Are you going btw?

Yes they should definately ask the U.S staff. But hmm.. maybe they are too proud.

but the free booklet is in the £4 magazine..so unless people already buy WD then it isn\'t free do you catch my drift??? I always buy wd and look forward to the GD booklet but the pics are letting it down each time...but hey they\'ll get there..

I\'ll be going down there and hopefully they can get some decent shots of mine..I mean the dread before they broke the claw would be an improvement

Hey maybe there is another motive....more and more people enter each year (apparently) maybe the crumby pics are to lull people into a false sense of security..they look at say the sword winning Carnifex and say hey I could paint a brown Carnifex....build their model (that they buy from GW) buy their GD ticket.....then get there and realise that brown looking carnifex is actually a masterclassin blending and natural tones...hmmmmmmm

A good few years ago I hired one for use with my 35mm Nikon. They are difficult to get used to but can give very smooth clear definition of the items you are taking.
Also quite expensive.

lono: In answer to your question:- I\'ll say no excuse for the quality of the photos.

Well yeah, you are quite right of course. To tell the truth I\'m shocked at how bad they are. It\'s pretty disappointing.

For the entire day they had: 2 people picking out the best minis to photograph; 2 people taking photos; 2 people optimising, cropping and saving the output and what must have come to about 40,000 pounds worth of photography kit.

The fact that one person taking shots for the Stuff of Legends site has done a much better job of it (and only spent about an hour taking pics) is somewhat disturbing.

lol They screwed up the base on mine a bit, too... the pic of mine looks weird, very dark and almost grainy ??? Bizarre. I saw the optimising guys\' screens, the pics looked pretty good on there (and they had a massive bag of popcorn between them :D).

This is the really scary thing, there were people there who should know what they are doing. They photograph minis all of the time, including the shots in WD, army books etc. so they obviously understand the basics.

Lets just hope they have put the really bad pics online and are saving the good ones for a booklet, but I have a sneaky suspicion that\'s not the case unfortunately.

That is great that GW put up coverage on the web this year, but there is better coverage here. Thanks to Orclord
