Golden Demon Question

When entering a model/s into GD does the base have to be made by the painter. E.g. could i enter a model with a GroundForge base or would i have to make the base myself.

And.....are the 30mm round edge bases allowed. The type you get with Warmachine and Wryd mini\'s (to name a few)

I would think that using another companies produced for sale bases would be a no no as you are supposed to use only GW components or make it yourself.

As for base size I would say no again as they are all supposed to be standard gaming size supplied with the model and they differentiate some of the categories on the base sizes.

In reality its very unlikely someone will be knowledgeable enough to pull you up on a bought base if its fairly generic looking, the round edge bases would be really noticeable straight away.

Cheers, il probably make my own then, unless i get a definate yes. Iv read through the rules but its very brief and only mentions being based on gaming sized bases.

May be a problem, might not be. Why take the chance?

If you\'re going to spend that much time on a piece, just make the scenic base yourself. No easy answer for the nice rounded edges, though with some creativity you could come up with something I\'m sure. :D

Don\'t use the Warmachine style bases! They are obviously not GW\'s standard gaming bases and since the small ones are 30 mm in diameter and not 25 they are not even the appropriate size.

Agree with Ritual here. The Warmachine style bases *might* be ok for the Open Category but I wouldn\'t take the chance.

I know that GW say \"appropriate sized gaming base\" and am sure they mean theirs only. However, there is usually some flexibility regarding the shape so you should be able to use round WH40K or LOTR bases instead of square WH ones(individual categories specify this) if that helps at all.

Didnt think i could use the 30mm ones, i just reckon they have a better display \'look\' to them. The models im doing are 40K so its round bases anyways. Il just make my own, just to be sure.

Just out of curiosity... has anyone ever been disqualified for using a pre-cast base that otherwise has the correct size and style?

Matty, I know your in the UK, but this was included in this years US rules and it is stated.

IMPORTANT: All work on models entered into the Golden Demon – including but not limited to painting, modeling, converting, after-market sculpting, and basing – must be performed entirely by the entrant. Neither models obtained from someone else in any state of completion nor collaborative efforts may be entered. Anyone found violating this rule will be immediately disqualified and forbidden from entering future Golden Demon painting competitions.

So I would say thats a big no.. well in the USA but to be on the safe side I would not do it for the UK either. This may the shape of things to come in the UK competition too.

Im glad they are trying to stamp out the whole collaboration thing, used to *EXPLETIVE DELETED* me off when you had some master sculptor making the model then gets a master painter to paint it. Should be a measure of one persons abilities not mini\'s by commitee.

Cheers DFD for that, i was looking but the UK rules i found on the site were very brief and dint fully explain it.
Guess il just make my own, no big deal, its not like i havn\'t got enough time!

Your welcome, now keep in mind as Ive stated this is off the US site and not the UK but you can\'t have any issues if you go by them. A better safe than sorry Id say. I know even up to the most receint UK GD there was colaborative efferts on a couple models that won and there was no problem I feel it should be a one man one entry show.

But I like resin cast bases... :p

Guess I\'ll try to avoid them if I fancy making a trip to Games Day in the near future!

Anyway I\'m glad the tag team efforts aren\'t gonna be accepted anymore. They never sat well with me.

Not that I stood a chance of winning, but I entered THIS LITTLE FELLA into the 2006 GD, and he is on a pre cast base (bar the barrel and tree.)

He got green stickered within minutes of registering him, but I wouldn\'t do it again mind. Although simply for the reason I like making bases now!
