Golden Demon Question

For me that is not against the rules... although it depends on your interpretation of "Custom designed brass etchings". To me it suggests that the person in question drew them up and had a company produce them for him as a one off, not that they were "off the shelf" components. The Souldrinker Librarian that got me bronze in last years UK GD had custom made brass bits on as well.

As for the resin house he described it as "scratched" .. a rather loose term perhaps to cover his back... although to be fair the original kit has had a lot of work done to it to get it to look like it does in his diorama. I'm presuming that the rules for the French GD are the same as those for the UK GD?

Yeah I agree with what you say about the custom designed brass etchings nels, also there are more of a finishing touch to the model and not a big aspect like that house is.
To describe it as scratched built is very loosely termed as it would have been alot harder to do what he did if he didn't have the house as a base to build up on. And I am not knocking the work he did, it is a brilliant diorama, with alot of feeling and things going on.
We need to know if the french rules are the same as the UK GD

*found them and translated by google

It's Sunday, May 22, 2011 that will take place at Parc Floral de Paris Games Day on the fifteenth French, and with it the fifteenth edition of the Golden Demon painting competition on the fantastic figurines and the futuristic world's most prestigious.

But an appointment of this magnitude can not be improvised and each competitor must be aware of these regulations before embarking on the adventure.

* One entry per category per person. Winners of the Slayer sword in previous editions, whatever the country, can register in only one category of their choice.

* It is forbidden to make a figurine having already been awarded during a Golden Demon France or elsewhere in the world.

* All figures submitted must be brand Citadel, or Warhammer Forge World Forge. Conversions are welcome, but must incorporate one or more of Citadel miniatures and remain faithful to the universe of Games Workshop.

* Although as being integrated in the Golden Demon, Young Blood and classes are open to full competition with their own trophies and is not entitled as such to obtain the Slayer Sword.

* Conversions figurines "The Lord of the Rings" are accepted only if they use elements of this range. Parts from our other universes (Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000), are thus avoided.

Similarly, conversions into other categories (Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000) should not use elements from the range of "Lord of the Rings."

* The figures must be hand-delivered by the candidate in person before being recorded by the competition officials on the scene of the Games Day.

* Competitors are responsible for transporting their figures and storage of their containers during the event. The recorded works are entrusted to our staff who undertakes to handle them with care, but Games Workshop can not be held responsible for any damage or loss of a figurine. When entering the competition is at the risk of the participant and his implies full acceptance of the settlement.

* Any model presented is capable of being photographed, she won a prize or not. By their mere participation, competitors allow Games Workshop to use the photos of their works without compensation.

* The judges' decisions are final. It reserves the right to move an entry from one category to another if it believes there is no place, or to disqualify a figure not respecting the rules and / or spirit of the competition.

Reminder: Registrations are held from 11am (10am or for holders of tickets pre-sale t-shirt), opened the doors of the Games Day, up to 13h, the beginning of jury deliberations.

Blimey.. is that all they get in France. That's about half of the guidelines we get in the UK. Assuming that is the full list ( not meaning to cast any dispersion on Crystella) then there is nothing in there about using parts from other manufacturers, as long as the figures areGW ones. Also doesn't mention anything about collaborations being against the rules, which is a big no no in the UK.

Interesting first rule that any winner of a Slayer Sword can only enter a single catagory/year. I can understand the reasoning that prevents a single person from dominating the competition by winning multiple Golds and standing a greater chance of picking up another Slayer Sword but, oh I don't know....it seems to go against the grain of a free and open competition. Maybe its more of a problem in France and other countries where the turn out is relatively small compared to the UK where there are a lot of people from all over that attend.

Aye those are the rules from the french GW site. Does seem to make ours(UK) just that much harder compared to the some of the others. I think they should really just have one set for all countries then it would be fairer for all.

You can use other bits just as long as they would not be noticeably identifiable. (i.e. Don't use a wolfen head as a conversion piece on a space wolf.) I have seen minis win in the US that used confrontation bits for conversion work haha! Since GW does not pay any attention to other mini companies they never noticed the bits were not from their range.
