Golden demon rules question

Simple question can I use a bit/part from 40k on a fantasy piece? Specifically I would like to use the wings from the tyranid gargoyle brood on a fantasy hero to make a vampire.

I tried searching GW site but i guess the rules change every year so the rules are up for a short time. The search I was using on their site kept giving my product matches.

Okay I found this:

THE LORD OF THE RINGS MODELS
There are four Golden Demon Categories open to all The Lord of the
Rings entrants: The Lord of the Rings Single Miniature, The Lord of the
Rings Group, Duel, and the Open Competition. Please note that you
may not mix models or model components from our The Lord of the
Rings ranges with models from our other ranges in any of the
categories. Entries which mix models or model components in this way
will be disqualified.

The reason why I'm highlighting this is because they specifically mention LOTR but don't say a peep about mixing 40k with WFB. I realize this is for license issues but still, it's what they don't say that makes me think you're okay because I can't find anything specifically saying you can't mix 40k and WFB.

This is the only other thing that seems to address your question:

We welcome conversions based upon our Warhammer and
Warhammer 40,000 game worlds in all appropriate categories, but
these should be consistent with the atmosphere of the game worlds and
spirit of the miniatures ranges that we produce. Furthermore, please do
not use any real-world references or references to other non-Games
Workshop fictional worlds in your entries. At this time, due to the
nature of our license, we cannot accept scratch built models based
upon The Lord of the Rings intellectual property. Conversions made
exclusively from our The Lord of the Rings range are acceptable.
Overall, the judges will be looking for well-painted models that adhere
to the imagery and ethos of the worlds represented in our fictional
settings of Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000. All single miniatures
must be mounted on the appropriate gaming bases. We reserve the
right to refuse entry to the competition.

But as you said the rules get tweaked every year.

I haven't checked the rules this year but historically it's been fine, even common, to mix 40k and fantasy parts. As noted by Kathryn, LoTR kit-bashing is not allowed.

using bits and pieces from 40k things in fantasy pieces and vice verca allways worked, as long as it doesnt make the mini look out of context. a bolter on a fantasy min does not work. wings or faces do. even think i´ve seen gargoyle wings in fantasy categorys before. what gd are you planning to enter?

A bolter on a chaos champion would work in the old fluff... :)

Speaking of GD - I just saw that tickets for Chicago 2012 go on sale on Black Friday - Nov. 25th. Does anyone know if this is online or at the brick and mortar stores or both?

Ive always understood that it's okay to mix parts from any model that GW has the creative license to.

GW does not have the creative license to LOTR, just the right to reproduce certain models.

This is Correct... New Line Cinema granted very specific Rights to Games Workshop and every Miniature produced has to keep it´s initial Parts... However, there have been some examples in the past where some Winners have Sculpted certain parts or even whole Miniatures and it seemed fine (since they have Won a Daemon with it...), but maybe the Jury has not realized that the Parts were modified...^_^... You never know...

Its even more confusing now the rights to LOTR are owned by more than one party...


Mixing 40k with fantasy and the specialist ranges bits is fine, just as long as it looks aesthetically pleasing you'll be fine :)
