Good/bad to ebay miniatures close to Christmas?

Hi,
Just wondering if people think it is wise to ebay painted miniatures just before Christmas. Or are buyers more likely to splash out at a different time of year? Any thoughts appreciated.
Cheers,
Vic.

Hard to say, but if it is your top shelf work and you are worried about getting a low bid price, you may just want to have it for sale direct on your website, set a high price tag, and advertise the sale here and various other sites. It would save on ebay fees that way and if the piece is one of the well known ones it should move without any trouble. Ebay is such a gamble if you have something up for auction when people are running out of cash from Holiday gifts. You could always do buy-it-now at a high price also, and then if it does not sell, put it up for auction later. Some folks really like to buy something immediately.

Hmm I would say wait till after Christmas a good few weeks after, people buying them for presents for Christmas will work with postal systems in mind and I don't think painted miniatures are last minute type presents. Likewise people buying for themselves will also be mindful of the postal system of near Christmas time and their bank balances.

I would personally sell in the beginning of February maybe March after peoples wallets have recovered, it could also depend on what type of return would be ideal for me as well.

I would think that after Christmas might be better, as all those teenagers flush with Christmas cash might be more willing to part with it. Somehow, I don't imagine a lot of people buying them as gifts.

Thanks for the replies. I think you might be right , its probably better to wait. BTW its my Praetorian Guard Army I'm preparing for sale. 'Caine's Cannonfodder', 124 painted and converted pieces of OOP metal goodness.
Cheers,
Vic.

With something that large and you really want a reasonable to excellent return go for a few months after Christmas, and get some notices around on any and every GW fan site you know of near the time ;)

By considering it now you are already too late if you want to engage the international market. Assuming you were to post a 7 day auction today it won't finish until the 11th so you may be able to post it on the 12th assuming the buyer pays pronto. I don't know what the Oz postal system is like but in the UK they will not guarantee delivery for overseas Airmail in time for Xmas if you post that late. So unless you want to pay for expensive next day ( overseas) delivery I would wait until after the New Year.
That raises it's own question. Auction early to get the Xmas money buyers or wait until Feb when the adults have got past the Jan credit card bill?
