Good, Cheap Drybrushes?

I got a set of Citadel brushes when I was given the Citadel monster paint set for Christmas a few years back. My favorite drybrush is the Citadel Large Dry Brush that came with the set, but it's starting to die on me... as all dry brushes do. The thing is, I don't want to spend a lot on a brush I'm going to destroy, so I was wondering what do other people here use? I need something with some stiffness to the bristles.

I think drybrushing is one of those things that synthetics are ideal for.

IME golden taklons are pretty consistent in quality, even cheapies can be around the same as more expensive brands, and you can definitely find some cheaper ones if you hunt around, particularly in sets (I got a set of nine Royal Langnickels recently for only €4).

The current "Medium Drybrush" from GW is the same size as the old Large one. Except now it's only a portion synthetic and the rest is ox hair or something. That gives you the stiffness but less curling (synthetics are prone to curl and look like a palm tree after a while).

I have had great experiences with the GW brushes. If that one had lasted you 3 years I'd say it would be a justifiably good investment to buy another. Currently the Medium drybrush is around $5 US. Not bad for a drybrush that will last a few years.

Cheap brushes tend to lose hairs a lot, which can get stuck to a model. Not fun pulling hairs off of miniatures. In my opinion it's better to pay a little bit more for something that will last a million times longer. I very rarely lose hairs on a GW brush.

i use makeup brushes. they are big and soft and thick so you get smoothish coverage if you thin the paint. smooth as you are gonna get drybrushing anyway

As followup for this thread: I asked the guy at my local hobby shop about drybrushes and he said all they had were the GW kind. I looked at them out of despiration, but was happy to see the new style brushes don't suck. I got the small drybrush and it's been working great.

There are a bunch of the big box kind. I happened to be at the hobby shop and needed to buy one more thing to use a coupon (worst reason to every buy something, I know), so I got it.
