good idea......or not?

I was thinking about painting my daemonic stuff (and my spawn) in a classic daemon-colorsheme, like the daemons in Silent Hill (if you know the games....I love em) or like in the old NES games like Faxanadu which still own, even today!

I\'ll give you a few links for pics so that you know what colors I\'d give my furies, spawns , screamers and chaos dogs. I don\'t like the bright colors for Tzeentch daemons to be honest .

:D http://www.rpgclassics.com/shrines/nes/faxanadu/enemies/wskullarm.gif for pure fun!

I know such a colorsheme would require a lot of blending (which is no problem for me) and a black undercoat for the dark mood as well as slightly colored shades in it.

1)What colors would YOU guys suggest?

Do you think such colors would be good? I mean, normally daemons have such a flesh-like color but I never saw something that dark and evil on GW minis and want to try it if not everybody says it totally blows!

2)what would you think of mixing such flesh-like colors with shining gold to get a shimmering color for my screamers like some real rays have? together with a gloss varnish it could look have that wet organic effect! What do you guys think?

Here you can see what I want to do with them:

Please tell me what do you think about such a colorsheme and my idea of mixing gold with normal GW paints to get a shimmering tone for a mini!

Edit: I hope it works now!

Yeah could work very well, kind of what some of the Dirz stuff looks like.

I wouldn\'t use gold in there, but thats just me, I\'ve heard it can work very well if done right, I just haven\'t worked out how yet.

No more opinions? :(

Thanks for your opinion Trevor - I\'ll make sure to check the Dirz stuff out :)

edit: I altered a pic of the GW furies to have the color I think I aim for - what colors should I use to get this SH-like color (the fleshtone on my pic)?

It certainly wouldn\'t be easy, but if you pulled it off, the effect could be stunning!
Another possibilty to use might be irridescent medium. I know lLiquitex makes some and it\'s available at art supply places, probably better craft places, too. Used judiciously, it might help create the wet effect you speak of better than just gloss varnish alone. Just a thought.

You can get some interesting effects with layers of ink washes. This may sound daring, but you could try putting a layer of \'ardcoat or other clear sealer (or perhaps white glue) in between layers, to give even more depth to the colours. Perhaps even some ink in the sealer or glue, just a little.

Along that idea, you could do an inkwash, and then when it was dry in all but the recesses, put on some sealer by brush and let it pull it up a bit.

I have tried out a few different techniques like this trying to make floor tiles for bases. You would need to try it out a few times before commiting though.

.........further to daubers suggestion might be worth looking at the mettallic additives as well while you are in the art shop, they give you a different effect than you would get with shining gold

& glossing between layers would definately create depth, I\'d personally not use white glue for this effect tho, just incase
hope this helps

Try having a look in the articles for Elouchards Underpainting technique. That might help give you an idea or two on how to achieve the effect you are after.

EDIT Should have put the link in first time. D\'oh

Here\'s the link.

Thanls for the cool tips and link! This will help me a lot (I\'m currently searching for some of the mentioned stuff and try the technique Dragonsreach linked me to on an old mini. :)

Just thought I would mention that I can\'t wait to see these as Silent Hill series of games are my favorite ever (although I shouldn\'t play them at home, alone, late at night!).

As to the colours, Reds and browns blended up to ivory or a bleached bone colour are going to be the main order. The toughy may be getting the almost marbley effect on the skin that the monsters have. As for the shine on them, I was thinking about some sort of pearlescent medium on them, but lets be honest, they are slimey demons, I think ink washes and gloss varnish are actually going to be friend not foe for once!
